Hi, Newbie here, just a quick question about training and the products you can use. Forgive me if this is a stupid question but can you train and then use any products or do you have to train with a certain company to be able to buy their products. My aim is to be a mobile tech and am very new to this and just trying to make the correct decisions:rolleyes: Because I will be my own boss I will be buying the products myself so need to know which products I can buy.

Hi, and welcome to the site

I trained with CND and you can only buy their products (for enhancements) if you have completed your training with them. You really should train with the company whose products you choose to use anyway so that you are aware of how they work etc. Good luck with your choice of training/products - keep us all posted :)

Hello Claire

I'm also quite new to nails, most professional companies will sell to you regardless of which training you have done but one or 2 are adament that you must do their training - from what I've heard and seen that is just another way for them to get money from you - lets face it if you pass your driving test in a mini u dont need to take another test to drive a bigger car! But fortunately the more there is to choose from the better, my boss has had a nail salon for 9 years and theres nothing she doesn't know.

Lisa :)

I think that certain companies prefer you to train with thier product before you can purchase it so that you have a full understanding of thier systems - I don't know if any have limited or patented systems that are not reproduced by other compaies?

I am totally new to nails and am due to start my VTCT at college in September and will then decide which company to pay for training with as it is a fair amount of money for me to invest with my current finainces. I can save though I hope lol

Good luck with your training Claire x

This statement is absolute rubbish, shortsighted, immature and thoughtless.

Why do beauty therapists have to train with different companies if they want to use their products? Because each system works differently and companies want the people who use their products to prosper and do well with them.

Speaking for CND they insist on training with the same motive and also to create a standard among their technicians. The products are totally different to any other system and there is information you need to know to prosoper and do well with the systems. CND want their tech to have the best rep and to thoroughly understand how to use their products and this takes education.

If you learn to drive a fiat then you need to have lessons to drive a Porsche so your analogy does not hold up at all. The basics may be the same but the way the car handles and drives is totally different. If your boss has told you different then she doesn't know what she is talking about.

That comment I have highlighted is compleatly the wrong attitude. Their are many possitive reason these TOP companies only sell to people THEY have trained & its mainly to ensure that the people using their systems are doing so safely & to enable you to obtain the best results from the products. I am still learning & use CND products I would be pretty naffed off if some untrained person was able to use the same products as me after I had spent all my time & most of my money training with them. Another reason why is to protect the reputation of the brand. CND (as an example) have one of the best reputations for training & products in the industrie & I for one am glad that they wont provide to just anyone

Sorry guys, I didn't want to create bad feeling here, I just wanted some info and advice. I don't want to limit myself with my training. Having said that, I have had my nails done in the past by supposed professionals and been really disappointed, in fact that has been what has spurrred me on into doing this, because I felt that I could do a better job than some of them, and so far I have!! (I am also a bit of a perfectionist!!) I would love to use the best products but unfortunately with two small children and working part time I can't get to CND training. What is it aside from CND training that sets the products aside from all the others. Are the product so much more superior? I don't mean to be funny by asking this, I just mean is it the superior products or the training, or indeed both? I suppose what I mean is...can you achieve the same good results with alternative products? God that was a bit of a ramble!!

Claire - I don't know if you can or not but is there no form of funding available through your local jobcentre or perhaps your local women's business bureau? We have a place local to us called WirralBiz who offer help to people wanting to get professional training to work in a professional manner.

Hi Brittone05

Thanks for your reply, it's not really the funding that is the problem it is finding the time and working it round the kids! Unfortunately i never seem to have both the time and be child free for long enough!!

If funding is no issue you could arrange some 1 to 1 tuition, this way it could suit you better, especially if it is just a conversion you need:)

CND have a trainer in your area .. ish. If you want it bad enough you'll find a way. As to your other question ...

With CND it is a combo of both products and training. All products will make nails .. Many (but not all) look good at the start ... but nothing beats CND for the lasting quality of the products, and in a business, that is what you want. It is one of the reasons why you will love using it and it is why your clients will love YOU for using it.

I didn't know that you could get 1 to 1 training, do they come to you?

Ring Sweet Squared the UK home of CND and ask about training in your area. This is the only way to get sound advice and the facts. 08452106060

PS YOU have not created any bad feeling. It is silly disrespectful posts that create heated responses.

I personally wouldn't know which product is the best as it takes a huge amount of data to draw conclusions. So in that question, I guess, you have to rely on the information you are getting from others.
I know of nail-techs who are quite successful using different products.

As I see it the bigger the brand the more money there is to develop, promote their products study the feedback etc. etc. etc.Let's hope it is money well spent as in the long run it comes from our and our client's pockets. ;)

This is very good un advice as there are other very well known brands and fab products out there.

The only advice I would like to add here is that in the nail industry you can never have enough education. An nail tech who is dedicated will continue there education and take as many classes as they can with all the top companys if they can.

This will not only give them a better understanding of these products but sometimes it helps them to choose which is best for them.

As I have said many times before Cinderella sometimes has to try on a few pairs of shoes before she finds her glass slipper. And what it one persons glass slipper is anothers flip flop.

I hope this helps:hug:

Thanks guys for all the info, really appreciate it. Have now had a look at the sweetsquared website and the CND training. Am I right in thinking that I could do a conversion course with CND as long as I have a qualification with another trainer. That is what it appeared to say on the website but just wanted to be sure!! I would probably be able to get one day away from the kids to do this but not sure about the 5 days for the foundation course.

I just read on another post hun that the 5 days with CND aren't consecutive but spread over a period of about 3 months so it would not be a solid 5 days of babysitters :D
