Well, I don't have a problem with people doing treatments on themselves with kit acquired by whatever means. I waxed my own legs for years before I did training, but I wouldn't have dreamed of waxing anyone else!

There ought to be regulations in place to protect the public.

Annoying as it is to know that there are untrained people carrying out the procedures that you've paid to train in, it happens everywhere and not just in the beauty industry.

If you want to learn to drive, you don't have to pay a driving instructor, it's perfectly legal to be taught by your Mum, Dad, Boyfriend or whoever. If you're going to court, you dont have to take a Barrister, you can represent yourself. Damaged your car? - you can buy car paint in Halfords and do it yourself. You're allowed to paint your own house, you're not obliged to employ a decorator.... etc etc

It's just the way it is. People have a choice, proessional or non-professional... they just have to accept that the results probably won't be the same.

Ooooo don't even get me started on untrained therapists a salon not too far away I know for a fact are doing eyelash extensions that aren't trained...I mean eyelash extensions.........pointed tweezers, strong glue just a disaster waiting to happen and someone who faked their own spray ta. Certificate but scanning one of there very old ones through the comp! And yes they are still in business....how know one seems to know!

That's strange! When i opened an account with Capital, i just gave them my business card! I could have picked that up from any salon. I wasn't asked for any proof of qualifications or anything. I guess it just depends on which branch you go to.
When I signed up for a CAPITAL card, they wanted so much proof.

When I signed up for capital they wanted to see certificates plus ID.

I have recently signed up to loads of places as just starting up.

Beauty Express wanted nothing.
Sally's - had to go in with certificates. Took my hair one too so I could buy hair stuff if I needed anything for my own use but they said the Beauty one was fine.
Ellisons - Not sure, think they might have wanted certificates. I know I deffo have to take one when I go Cash & Carry. Also had to send manicure qual to put CND in basket
S2 - Wanted proof of Manicure qual
Salons Direct - Nothing needed.

Also agree with Flesh about it not being just Beauty. It's not like were Doctor's/Dentists/Opticians and other specialist types.
We fall in with 'service' industries like Builders, Decorators, Carpenters.

It's like, say, B&Q. There open to the public but also supply to trade. So I can go and buy all the stuff I need to lay some decking or build a shed and do a 'average Joe' job.
Or I can pay someone who has been trained and has quals to use exactly the same materials but do a million times better.

I have always done my own things at home when I was younger, false nails incl gel & acrylic, tinted lashes, St Tropez etc. I don't think anythings wrong with it as long as they are only using it on themselves and not others - certainly not paying clients! BUT one day something is highly likely to go wrong and when it does they will be straight to a pro to fix it :wink2:

Hail to this comment sister!

it doesnt help when they can watch "you tube" tutorials on how to do it and then buy products off ebay! How do you stop or govern it though? Id really love to do a video of the entire ELE training but im too scared some fool will get their hands on it and then im just as bad as the next person for allowing it to be viewed by people who think they can do a service that takes month or even years to perfect!

I suppose your just always going to get it.

But say a group of friends get together and a few do their own nails or each others, they might look 'ok'.

Then one friend shows hers off who's been to a top notch tech and their all like 'wow mine look BOB in comparison'!

OR maybe one of them is soooo good at doing friends nails they end up going to college and learning how to do them professionally :)
