Hi there geeks, just a quick question, I went back to a new client today to do infills for the first time, and she was wondering why there was dirt underneath two of the nails ,the last two on her left hand ? It appeared to be between the acrylic and the natural nail I noticed all he rest of the nails were fine.

She did say she done some gardening at the weekend and did wear gloves,so Im not sure as to wether I didnt fit the form correctly or wether its just where her nails grow downwards /or both ..what do you think?

i wouls probberly say it were it has lifted a little and diry has gotten underneath, or not enough product was used. I have had that before.x:cool:

Thanks, any other suggestions please? :wink2:

Could be a slight step between your nail form and the client's natural nail. A quick scrub with a nail brush or an old toothbrush will work wonders. It is amazing how many clients forget to clean underneath their nails! :wink2:

eww that just made me shudder.... but oh so true.

I have had clients who thoroughly enjoy picking the free edge of their nails, away from the acrylic on top.
Having broken the bond, enevitably dirt gets between.

I mean really? Why is there dirt between my nail and the overlay?? How about telling her, because she got them dirty doing some dirty job??? Obviously the nail has curled away from the overlay (you need to always clamp the edges at every rebalance so 'curling' doesn't happen).

Yes I told her to use a soft nail brush to clean her nails with , she reckon she did, but made no difference ,just cant understand why it was only the two.

Can you explain what you mean by clamping please Geeg, not sure.:o

what geeg means by clamping is making sure that you seal the sidewalls and tip of the natural nails free edge with acrylic when you rebalance the nails so that the natural nail doesnt curl away from the acrylic and break the seal.

if this seal is broken, then there will be an opportunity for dirt and moisture to enter between the natural nail and the acrylic which is what has happened in this case i would think.

if the dirt is inbetween the natural nail and the acrylic layer then she wont be able to access it with a nail brush.

its only happened on these 2 because these were the only that were damaged .

you need to remove the acrylic either with your file or soaking off and give the nail a good clean before replacing with new product.

ha ha , nothing quite as drastic !
its just about being extra vigilant at the rebalance appointments to prevent problems before they can occur.
