Hi I am new to the site and when I found this site I was so relieved!!!!

I HAVE A PROBLEM!! I am a qualified beauty therapist and have been since 2001 and was until yesterday confident. I waxed my bestfriends eyebrows yesterday with the phd system which I have been using for 4 years, and immediately after the wax I noticed she had a tiny red mark in between her eyebrows, I pointed this out to her and she said "Oh I always go red". To my horror when I saw her today the mark is still there and has scabbed over!! I FELT TERRIBLE, was it my technique or the wax?

I always cleanse with pre cleanser apply vaseline to the surrounding area as a barrier, test the temperture on my wrist and then the client, and I pull this skin taught so what did I do wrong??

The only things I can think of is that I did not pull tight enough or rubbed to hard or the wax went tacky or my angle. I felt so bad I bought her some nice pyjamas when we were shopping, can anyone comfort me:cry::cry::cry:

Did you apply some talc or oil to create a lipid barrier between the skin and wax ?

Hi Loubylou,
I was trained with Phd in there product and have never used oil or talc before with the wax as it is warm wax with a strip, I only usually use oil when doing hot waxing. I have been doing it for years and never happened to my knowledge. Thanks

It does not matter which wax you are using hun you should always apply talc or oil to create the lipid barrier to protect the skin, it would have stopped this little accident with your friend,
do a search on the site and you will find that this is the done thing hth:hug:

Thankyou very much my dear I think i will doing that from now on, I was never taught to talc at college either and had done well up until yesterday, but this really scared me, lucky it was a friend.

Thankyou very much for your help

Aside from dumping the Vaseline and using oil underneath the wax, it sounds to me like you did fine. Things happen and if your wax was too hot I'm sure there would have been more marks or she would have said. Don't beat yourself up about it. xxx

I have to say I always use talc as a barrier when I am waxing and have never had a problem. However I was never taught to use talc when I did my training, it was only when a fellow therapist told me about it that I started using it. But if you havent had a problem up until now, I say keep doing what your doing, it obviously works for you! Could your friend have had really dry skin or perhaps a pimple on that spot? that may account for the scab. Don't let it scare you though!! I have heard much, much worse stories from therapists who have been in the industry for years. Good on you though for putting your hand up and asking for advice, it's the only way we learn!!

Hi there - I think when we carry on for years and nothing goes wrong it comes as a big shock when something does. I agree that it is nothing to beat yourself up about. She may have just had some sensitive skin there.

I know how you feel as I have waxed for many years but when I started doing brazilians I had a learning curve. It was mortifying that the first few treatments were not as perfect as they could have been but that is about adjusting and learning. You could try the talc application or just make sure that your consultation is more thorough as complacency does set in but I suspect it is just one of those things.
