OK, so the boards are quiet, and Lelli has suggested asking those questions we have always been too scared to ask..............here goes! :green:

Do you find a conflict with recommending that clients could use retinol/vit A products for anti aging benefits and yet it then becomes a contra-indication for waxing?

For example, my most popular waxing is eyebrows, but I have to ask if they have used retinol in the last 6 months because it effects the skin (btw can anyone go into this in more detail?). But surely one of the places we first suffer the signs of aging are around the eyes and therefore the perfect treatment would be retinol.

I'm confused.:o

I get round this by not waxing the brows, I only pluck. I know the "does waxing brows stretch the skin" debate has been argued on here before and personally I don't feel comfortable doing it except in the middle of the brows and on clients who insist they only want waxing, as long as they are not using a skin thinning topical lotion.

Hi I agree with Weezie. I thought threading would help here but it does not. The thread gives a very mild exfoliating effect. I did this to one of my brows and applied AHA day cream and my skin flaked off. :) Regarding Retinol etc these products are excellent for anti-ageing but they they produce a faster cell turnover, bring newer fresher cells to the surface. Hence the skin can be more delicate and more prone to irritations and especially sun damage, hence why a SPF is always advised.

Thanks guys - any other opinion out there?

Does the use of tendskin (which contains aspirin) affect waxing? I'm curious since Aspirin is salisilyc acid.

I have no issues with waxing someone using retinal a or similar products. The most important thing it to look carefully at their skin to see if it can handle waxing. I always use oil on the skin first, and this really helps.

as for the tendskin.... tendskin is used after waxing, so don't see why it should cause any issues.

Thanks.

In the Tendskin site they suggest using it also before waxing.

yes, you can use it every day for 2-4 days before waxing, this will help to kick up any hairs that may be still under the dead skin cells.

I totally agree with Anita on this. If you wax carefuly and really study your clients skin, you'll be fine. xxx

Thanks everyone:hug:.

I know it's not something to be scared of now.
