waxing or threading

Hi I'm looking for help and advice i am a hairdresser makeup artist and nail tech but I'm looking to expand and i cannot decide between waxing or a threading course i want to do both but cannot afford to do both straight away please help what do you think is best?

Threading seems to be getting alot more well known and popular and iv had a few clients asking about it (although I dont do it). Waxing on the other hand is alot better known and you can do more areas of body (im not sure if you can do threading on arms, legs and bikini). You could maybe ask your regular clients what they would prefer and go from there Laura xx

If it is a choice between the two, I would definatly opt for the waxing.
As blushbeauty1 said you can cover much more areas, threading is mainly face areas; eyebrows, upperlip, chin, sides of face.
Waxing covers full body, & with a waxing course you can also do an intimate waxing course or/& male waxing course, which is very very popular & there is good money in it.
I offer both waxing & threading, waxing for me is much more popular.
I guess it also depends on room, are you in a salon or mobile? Do you have a beauty couch or will you need to buy one? x

I just do waxing, Can always tell when one of my eyebrow clients has been somewhere else for threading to try it though... Some of the regrowth sticks out in all different directions!! Personally this has put me off offering threading myself allthough I admit the results initially look fantastic.

I agree with the waxing forst option, threading is something you could add to your skill set in the future but I would say waxing gives you the option to offer a wider range of treatments for your clients hth x

Go for waxing as you'll be able to offer your clients more.

I trained in threading and my opinion hasn't changed. Waxing is fast and the quicker you are, the less discomfort for your client.

Threading is fashionable at the moment I agree. However, waxing will be your bread and butter and you can wax any and every part of the body. xx

Totally agree with the others. I think there are people out there making more money training others in threading than the people doing the threading. It is fashionable but waxing is more versatile. Both Kim and myself have been around for a very long time (sorry Kim) and we see these fads come and go but waxing has stood the test of time!

thank you all for your advice,i thought that waxing would be best to start with.I am mobile but next month i am starting 2 days a week in a salon as well as mobile so now i will have to decide what system to go with after i have done my course lol thanks again you have all really helped x

I love threading for the face, in my opion it's kinder to the delicate facial area, never had anyone come back to me having eyebrows going in different directions after!! BUT waxing would be better regarding you can do top to toe, threading is really just for the face.

If you do get a chance to learn threading (after waxing) do it, I set up on my own in Bournemouth and because it's new and up and coming I've had a lot of customers come for threading and then go on to become regulars for several different treatments.

I have had at least 20 clients who have complained of their eyebrows all of a sudden growing "sticking out", I then say "When did you last have them done?" and they reply " oh - I had them threaded last time" - just me jumping to conclusions! Perhaps whoever did the threading was not following correct procedure, who knows....

Had a few ladies that also said the person doing the threading cut their skin so I guess like anything there are good and bad people who offer this treatment.

Must say that I agree. Everyone that tells me they've had thread have said that it hurts and takes much longer than waxing. I have also see burns and cuts from threading.

I just don't get the point of having it threaded when it takes a lot longer than waxing. I think a lot of the photo's that accompany the threading ad's are misleading. Most of them show you the beautiful Asian girls who have full, dark brows. However, hair does not grown in a straight line, so to achieve that perfect brow, you have to cut the hair at the top and I suspect that make up has been applied. We can all have brows like that, but that isn't achieved by threading alone.

I trained in threading just to make sure that I knew what I was talking about. For me the perfect brow is achieved by waxing and tweezing.

It's like anything though.......in the right hands, it's fine. xx
