can somebody help me please. i dont normally do male waxing but when i do its mainly back waxing and have had no problems what so ever. i have only done chest waxing about 2 or 3 times and everytime the person comes up in loads of spots the next day. did they have a hot bath or was sweating after to cause the spots i dont know? i have another male client booked in this week who has never had a chest wax before and im terrifyed he will come up in spots again before his holiday. am i doing something wrong or is there something i can do to avoid it?

Probably best to have a chat with Axiom on here (he is the male waxing guru par exellence).

I'm sure I reacted worst the first time I had my chest waxed though - so the chances are that the reaction will be worse for a wax virgin unfortunately...

The chest can be a bit of a nightmare! Some pointers from what I do:

  1. Ensure you cleanse the area
  2. Trim the hair down if its quite long (I usually clipper down to Grade 2)
  3. Use a light oil before waxing (I use Jasmine oil) - lots of threads about doing this on here
  4. Get the client to help with stretching the skin
  5. Work down the middle first, and then in from the sides
  6. At the end use some good after wax products (I use a cooling Aloe Vera spray and then Moisturising Milk)
  7. Ask the client to wear a clean shirt after the wax (they need to bring this with them so advise before the appointment)
  8. No hot baths, showers, saunas, steam rooms etc for upto 48hours. Warm showers etc are fine.
  9. They must also avoid exercise, swimming or getting sweaty for the first 24hours while the skin recovers.
Unfortunately, for some clients they just get acne after waxing and it can't really be helped. A good tea-tree / anti-septic cleansing product can help.

If you follow Mats advice you should be safe to say that you have done everything you can to avoid any problems.
However there is some clients that have a tendency to break out no matter what and the only thing you can do is offer some aftercare that will help against break outs (we use Clear it).
In most cased the reaction will be far worse the first time the client is waxed, but if they look after their skin and use products like body polish afterwards they can avoid such a heavy reaction for the next time.
You will find - just like on other areas of the body - the discomfort and also the reaction will decrease by about 50% if the client comes regularly (every 4 weeks).
Hth

It is normal for most guys to break out in spots after a chest wax and sometimes a back wax. It's nothing you've done and something which remains a mystery to us all. Yes, we all know the theory, but in life the reality is an entirely different matter.

I advise my clients to dry brush as soon as they get them and apply something medicated or use a tea tree body wash. They've all had good results.

Yep, or sell them tea tree after wax lotion. Or if you are nice, give them some to take home :)

Yes I have had this with one of my lovely gents who is a police sergeant. He was very spotty for the first 3 wax sessions but it settled over time and now he only has the odd reaction lasting a couple of hours, looks a bit like prickly heat! :)
