hi

i am currently going to book a nail extension course but you can only do either gel or acrylic and was wondering what is more popular in the salon these days?

i will do that one first and then when i get the money together ill do the other system

thanks

Acrylic is more popular, and more versatile.
It's trickier to learn.

My personal opinion/advice..... Take the L&P course. Well worth your money. You can learn uv gel later, as an add-on.
It's harder to learn L&P if you've done gel first (undoing your techniques etc...)

Just my opinion.

Whilst I do sort of agree with Victoria - it differs from area to area. I do mostly Liquid and Powder but just recently I have had lots of phonecalls from people wanting gels.

Do a canvass of your local salsons to see what they all do - if they all do gels then they must be more popular in your area.

Hope that makes sense. At the end of the day you are best to learn both though.

Well, I think it depends on where you are located. It looks like gel is more popular in Europe than in the US. It also depends on the city, like in my city, gel is more popular, but in the capital of Norway, l/p is the most popular.

I think it is indeed depending on your location. here in gothenburg it is mostly l+p and in the southern part malmö mostly gels.
I think it is hard to say one thing or another since i started with l+p and found gel afterwards just one goo and found it much harder to work with. i bet gel users will say the same when they start with acrylic afterwards since you need to get the mix ratio right and you it sets by itself.

Agree with what most others have said. I have learned both techniques and am almost qualified, yet I am still undecided on which I prefer! I dont get to do a lot gel though, because everybody who comes in to me wants acrylic! (some that want gel, but then discovered that the last time they went to a salon, it was infact acrylic they got and not gel!) I am sure I will love acrylic more once I can get the hang of it... ie, preventing the lifting and picking up the beads with perfection everytime! :) xx

If everyone in your area is doing acrylics, then why not do gels (or vice versa)? I wouldn't want to open a Pizza Shop when there are already 5-6 established ones right around the corner...Perhaps I would sell sandwiches & wraps instead. Differentiate yourself and you might be more successful. Best of luck to you in whatever your choose.

i would definitely encourage you to learn l&p first, like other have said, you can always learn gel after. and of course depends on area but personally i do about 90% l&p 10% gel... where im located l&p is the standard, when clients walk into your salon they expect it, gel is more of an "extra" for me (at least for now!) good luck:)

I prefer to teach l&p first as gel requires a different technique. I agree to research what your potential clients would be requesting. I am a full service technician and can do all systems and give my clients what they need based on nail and lifestyle not what they want.
