Hello, i am currently doing NVQ level 2 from home. I am struggling on this question and hope that someone can help!

Which one of the following is (although unlikely) contra-action that you should mention to your client prior to treatment? Eczema, bleeding, allergy, nausea?

Please help!

Sorry but this is not here to do home work,
we can only tell you to use the books you have been advised to use for your course and use google to help you.

Thank you for replying. I understand that, but I would be really grateful if you could recommend some books? I trained at the Carlton institute to do my diplomas and got a general manual for each subject however, this is not enough information for NVQ level 2 and i am really struggling. They Sent me each NVQ pack for each subject but i cannot find any recommendations for books only the handbook which i already have and still, there is no information there. please help

Go to ebay and type in nvq beauty and you will find a range of books. You can get the nvq2 books on there by Jane Hiscock. I saw one for about a fiver but you'll have to add p&p on to that but still cheaper than buying them in the shop. There is also a book by Lorraine Nordmann called 'beauty therapy' that you will find helpful.

I may be wrong but Id say Allergy! Just think about the question logically...a contra-action is something that might happen after a treatment....I dont see why bleeding or nausea would happen....eczema....well possibly if the client has eczema it could be further aggravated....and allergy to a product/ingredient....quite possible to x

Well yeah, that's what I thought too. Cos even when you do a full consultation before hand and they tell you all their allergies, they might find they are allergic to the oil in the massage or something. But as they say in the question (although unlikely) it could happen, however thorough you are with the consultation. All the other answers seem a bit dramatic like bleeding and nausea! I will get a book anyway as I am struggling with other questions. Thank you for talking through the question with me. I think that's what it needed, logical thinking! lol

Just an idea but i wouldn't discount bleeding so quickly, it is possible that occasionally you can nick your client with the file, resulting in bleeding, i havent done it for long time, but it can happen so worth a thought
hth

Yes thats true but you wouldnt mention to your client before treatment that you might possibly nick them and cause them to bleed! (saying that you probably wouldnt tell them there's a chance they could have an allergic reaction either!) x You would tell them if they had eczema or a skin condition though that it could be aggravated (well I would anyway) so maybe Eczema is the answer!? x

The Lorraine Nordmann book is good, we use it at college, really helpful.

As said before this is not the place to be giving homework advice and above you can see people wondering as to what the answer is so of course when the answer is given is ruthie really gonna have learnt anything! I think all of you should open your books and learn the meaning of contra-indication and contra-action and learn the correct answer. Ruthie - if you feel you do not have enough information you should get onto your educator and ask them to suggest some further learnig materials.
