Work experience offered."Sams work experience"

I hope this is the right place to put this!

I want to offer some work experience places to my fellow geeks. I own a nail and beauty salon with my fantastic business partner and we would be happy to offer a one or two week work experience placement to you.

But let me be 100% honest from the outset, there is no job at the end. also we are not in a position to pay you. BUT we supply the products, a friendly and happy environment and lots to learn.

You'll be involved in all aspects of the salon, from performing treatments, to cleaning. You'll need to be CND or NSI trained in nails. (sorry we cant offer this to other systems, but we only have experience in those systems). but if you still want experience in other areas, dont let that stop you applying.

you dont need to be able to do nails AND beauty, either is fine, or both.

You'll also need to be able to dedicate yourself to the week you are offered, we will booking appointments in for you on willing models for you to practise on . we plan to run this for as long as it is needed.

Requirements are as follows:

You must hold a valid certificate in the treatments you want experience in.
You must be newly or recently qualified and have NO salon experience.

Last year a very wonderful geek helped me (mrs Geek ) I am passing the goodwill on.

If you want to be considered for this , please pm me , youll be asked to supply a cv first and then you'll be asked to come along to the salon to meet us.

We will try our best to get as many of you a place throughout 2010 as possible.

Mrs Geek, I hope this is ok with you? I am also calling the placement after you. "Sams Work Experience" . I am hoping other salons will consider getting on board. After all , we all need a leg up once in a while and you were there when i fell flat on my face after being conned and gave me the help i needed.

Yes cats, we would also open it up to someone like that. We are saying no salon experience because we believe that this is hardest obstacle for anyone trying to start out as a nail or beauty therapist. We will offer to be referees too.

We all hear people complaining that the next generation of the young are lacking in certain skills. (dont shoot me, i am just voicing my opinion). well, then by offering this I get some help in the salon, and they get the experience they need and want and we all win!

and yes, I realise that this is going to be hard, and am a bit loopy, but I believe this is the answer in the long term and I am also a huge believer in love and peace and karma..... ill never be rich but ill always be happy!

We plan to immerse them in all aspects, marketing, cleaning, treatments, clients, etc etc . its not going to be for the faint hearted!

I hope one day someone will say " I am where I am today because partly sheila and jodie gave me a little leg up, BUT the rest i did myself, I worked hard , studied hard and practised till my arms almost fell off and I'm now going to give others a chance like i got !!!".

Ill burst with pride if that ever happens!

I have been wracking my brains for a suitable way and i think 'sams work experience' is a fitting way to do it. your kindness blew me away and I cant thank you enough.

so far we have four or five people from ALL OVER THE WORLD wanting to do it!! How cool!! I am so excited and I cant wait to start. We will keep you all informed on how we get on and I am in contact with a localish college to open it out to more therapists.

Well I hope Tigi doesnt mind me posting this, but I think this is a fantastic opportunity and I am in process of sorting out sending my CV and some images of my work. The fact that its several miles away isnt a deterrant for me, but then I don't have children to consider. Ironically I was talking to Gigi about the viability of doing something like this a few months ago. Lets hope other salon owners out there read this and consider doing something similar.

I just hope I am one of the lucky ones taken on for this experience. Thank you once again for considering me for this fantastic opportunity, I am sure whoever gets to take it up with you will learn loads and their confidence built will be ten fold!

We do most things beauty. So the offer is also available to beauty too.
We offer the following treaments in the salon and provided you have a certificate for them, you can have work experience in them.
Spray tan
waxing
lash brow tinting
manicure
pedicure
massage
facials
hot stones
lash extensions

hiya Sheila- my post is irrelevant, but just wanted to say well done, what a cracking idea.

Big fan of karma myself (not in a spiritual way you understand- just in the "you reap what you sow" way!) - oh, and nice logo!

This is just off the top of my head- and forgive me if im stepping on toes here, but if this is something that other people would like to do. I have some spare webspace that people might want to post ads and a contact email address on. All free of course. (I only say this if the Geek doesnt want it clogging up here).

Anyway- just a thought.

i just want to say that reading about your work experence for us therapists has really lifted my spirits i hope other salons follow yor route to give us a chance because iv been trying to get work experience in essex and been left feeling empty with no one willing to help,maybe theres light at the end of the tunnel
