My own daughter wanted hers done and I eventually relented and let her have them done when she was 11. I did a lot of research about it as I wasn't all that keen and ended up going to a professional tattooist to have them done - more hygenic, they seemed more professional obviously more specialised. I was also told to avoid Claire's not only because of hygiene but also because of people who had complained they weren't even etc.

I also had them done at the beginning of the summer holidays so they had time to heal before school started in September.

As for pain - well, I did tell her it would hurt and that she should prepare for that and if she really wanted it done then that was what it would entail (cruel mother that I am). The lady who did her said she didn't move and had a grin from ear to ear because she could have it done.

She had her nose pierced last year at the same place, and I would highly recommend that route.

lol, I think my mum is the same, I have 3 holes in each ear and I also have the little bit of the ear that is on the face (if you get what I mean) pierced, I am going to get the other side done too. Ive had my belly button done for ages, id like to get it done again too at the bottom

Ive also recently had 3 tattoos done, I think my mum is dreading what I am going to do next! (Just 2 more piercings and 2 tattoos- I promise!)

STEP AWAY FROM THE INKS AND NEEDLES NOW !!!!!

I can only say "thank the lord" that I've convinced my daughter NOT to have a tattoo.

So in the process of "expressing" herself, she is probably going to end up looking like a pin cushion instead

I'd like to have my ears piereced again; had a 2nd piercing done years ago which has healed up and can't be reopened now.

My preference would be to go to a body piercer, to have a needle used instead of the gun (dont have much space on my tiny wee ear lobe to work on:)).

Can the geeks advise what sort of trained professional accreditation I should be looking for the piercer to have?

cheers,
jtp x

hi Blossom,
I am also qualified to pierce ears & have had my own done quite a few times too. If you were bringing your little one to me the advise I would give you...
(and i know it may be different from other peoples, but this is from MY personal experience & that of my clients)
... would be to try & leave the earings alone as much as possible for atleast the first 12 wks. (ofcourse still following all the cleaning advise etc)
Yes its ok to change them after the first 6 wks but they do say that the healing time can vary for everyone. Average healing time is from 6 - 12wks.
So, I would personally be a little worried about changing the fairly recent piercings so often - just because i'd feel they would be much more likely to get an infection. Also, the more you irritate it, the harder it will be to heal. I would also reccomend to not over clean the piercing, as drying it out will, also, irritate it.
Better to leave them be to just settle down for as long as possible at first.
But this is only one persons opinion.
hth hun xx

I had mine done when I was four and still remember it to this day lol! I jumped off the stool after the first one and wouldnt let her do the other one! but then got persuaded! hehe.
But its not even a terrible pain is it, your ear just feels fat and hot so it will feel the same whether its one at a time or both together! Just let your daughter decide which she wants, saying that tho at piercing places its usally only one piercer rather than two x
