 OK, bit of background first. I am a newly qualified Nail Tech & went out to one of my new ladies last week. It was the 1st time i had visited her. Checked her nails and she complained that the Nail Tech before couldnt be doing a good job as her nails were breaking.

After completely soaking off (taking 1 1/2 hrs!!!) i finally got down to ladies natural nail. Reason for breakages was that her natural nail was extremely thin as not had any rest from her extensions for approx 12-13 months. I advised her that due to one of her nails being broken right down past her stress line, i really was not prepared to put a new nail on a small open wound - infections etc.

Soaked off, nail buff and nails looked ok, but very very weak.

OK ..... so lady text me today asking for a set to be put back on for Crimbo period. I called her back & again advised I was extremely concerned about applying tips due to her thin weak nails and this very short nail, but she is insisting, even after my advice, to have a set on.

Please help, being new to this I feel very trapped between devil & deep blue sea.

Do i do them as I have advised they will probably not last & i am concerend about the glue on her skin directly undernail or do I refuse.

Cookies & wine if you got this far.....thanks.....

Cookies & wine gratefully received lol :wink2:

It could be that the enhancements she had on previously were applied too thinly.
OR
She is someone who is very hard on her nails.

OR
A combination of both.

Nails don't need to 'rest' from enhancements, that isn't what's caused her thin nails, they were either like that to begin with OR they've been over filed by her previous techs.
If you use a hospital grade adhesive (like Creative's Gel Bond you won't have a problem).

You should be ok to apply a short set of enhancements, with her not having much length she won't have the leverage to encourage breakages. Make sure you build your apex strong enough in zone 2 to strengthen them.

It sounds to me as if you need a confidence boost, you might not get it with this particular client, but you need to believe in yourself, your knowledge and the work that you produce

:)Hi there - thank you soooo much for yr prompt help - so very appreacited.

Yes, I think you are right with regard to the confidence issue - my problem is I just hate getting things wrong for people:sad:. I know it will come with time

Sorry, I did fail to mention that she did have quite heavy dents/grooves from her previous sets of nails, so i gently buffed them to get the best smooth finish i could without further damage to her nails.

I will defo get the Bond Gel and give that a whirl.

Thank you once again - I will let you know how I get on......here goes LOL JLx

Do let us know how you get on

Great replies from Sandi....if my nails were thin, short (and possibly tender?) I would definitely want a set of enhancements to fix 'thin, short, tender' and from a very caring, careful tech. Sounds like you!

Totally agree with Sandi and Fiona)))

Sounds like a great opportunity for a long term client)))

Good luck

sounds to me like you could be this clients savior! I am sure she will appreciate the care you are taking when treating her nails.

thank you all sooo much for your lovely replies - they really are appreciated:).

I am not going to pretent i am not apprehensive about my client's nails - but i will defo be using the Bond and explain fully & carefully to her the consequences of me doing her nails.

Hugs you all so much - you are all very loverrrrly:hug:

Good luck, Julie. Even if you are able to just treat her with care, concern, and a "bedside manner", you will probably earn her trust for the future. And that is really the bigger issue. If she can trust you to do what's right for her nails then she may be less likely to object if someday you give her advice that she really may not want to hear.

Hi Julie, I'ev not much to add as there's been such fab advice already, but just wanted to say that I've had a couple of clients come to me like this, we've overlayed with l&p, keeping the length short and over the following weeks/months the damage has just grown out, all the while the nails being a lot more comfortable for being protected. And boy they can be sore. . . I used to crucify my own nails in the early days, well the right hand anyway lol!
You sound like a lovely tech, good luck x
