Am I the only one who hates the look of extended nail beds?

I know that extending the nail bed with l&p is a clever thing to do.. but the more I see photos where the nailbed looks as though its been extended beyond the end of the finger... well it just looks WRONG to me lol!

Am I on my own with this, or does anyone else out there think this look just looks a bit.. umm weird?!

Not meaning to offend anyone by the way - this is probably just me being a bit peculiar!

I know what you mean....I love a beautifully extended nail bed but the ones that are unnaturally long do look just that...unnatural....but then you could say the same for some whites....natural nail free edges are not that white.....i guess its all about what is pleasing to the eye of the beholder....some like a more fake look and others more natural...some like a mix of both.

To use a coverage product to give a improved nail bed length to nail biters or just those with a short nail bed is like inventing mascara IMO....pure genius !!

Absolutely Bagpuss - I have no problem at all with extended nailbeds where the client hasn't got one due to being a bad biter - that's very clever, but it just seems to me that there are some STUNNING nails in the Geek Gallery which (imho!) are just let down by having these overextended nail beds. I think it's one of those things that once you have noticed it on one set of nails, your eyes are just start seeing them everywhere!!

Hiya I am the same! I like extended nail beds on biters and clients with round nails-brilliant dont know how I lived without it! But if the client has a nice natural long nail bed and shape I prefer the traditional pink powder-but that just my opinion. Some clients like the look of the opaque better and there are advantages such as when a rebalance is needed the nail has no free edge showing so the nail always looks perfect except for the regrowth at the cuticle. But I still absolutely adore the look of the traditional french !!!!!!xxxx

Whilst I think the coverage powders have their definite uses for all the reasons already mentioned, I think it's a shame to use them when a person has perfectly good natural nail beds. I also find the sheer powders a damn sight quicker and easier to put on! :)

Gee Wizz, I thought I was the only one who thought like this, and really didn't want to say it...... Thank god..I'm not the only one.

While I agree, with nail biters etc, to actually extend it down so far, is in my opinion fake...

But having said that, I do like the look of them in comps/posters etc. To know/show what can be acheived with the cover/s is wonderful. :)

It’s a clever thing to extend the nail bed with gels as well ;).

No, you are not on your own with this. I don’t like exaggeration in this case either – as it has already been pointed out the key-words are natural and pleasing to the eye (and I don’t see a controversy between the two).

For such people it may be THE ONLY REASONABLE WAY in terms of nail-enhancement.

I think some nail-techs when they start extending short nail beds and see what miracles the trick performs, get carried away. And with nails we do on regular clients it is a good idea to draw a line somewhere so that their nail beds don’t look over-extended.
As for the ‘haute couture’ nails ;) – it’s a different story beyond the scope of this thread.

Used properly they look fab but when used to extend already normal nail beds it just looks wrong!! It is good to hear that I am not on my own with this dislike! I am not sure if it is understood that you only need to extend the nailbed when it is too short or if it is supposed to be a new fashion statement? I am old and confused at the best of times, put on my first Stiletto yesterday after visiting the girls at Young Nails in Manchester. This nail is the most beautiful thing I have seen, so you see I do try to keep up! Ha ah ha!! But these overly extended nail beds, I'm sorry, I just don't get it! xxx

I'm not a big fan of the extended nail bed, however it does work really well for nail bitters or short stumpy nails... gives the nails a longer elegant look. :)

Thank You...... its a Show and not Allday!

What were if we found only ordinary Nails in Galery.
What with Art? With Phantasie????

Its were boring....
(i ask myself who buy the Scratch and another magazine... ;) )

I find half a meter White French stupid. And not gut formed.Or Sticker on the Nail...... grrrrr.....:irked::rolleyes:
When sombody is perfekt in technik than i think he can also make an experiment and exercise with form, colour ,etc....

Dont You think so?

Of course nobody pay me in my Studio for this extreme Nailart. But it is my best Advertesing-system. I dont need posters, newspapers or Flyers....

And I love to play with Material....that is what make from me a Proffesional - ordinary can be everybody.....

:hug::hug::Grope::):)

I prefer to do the nail-bed opaque. The reason has been pointed out by somebody - that way the free-edge doesn't show through after 2-3 weeks. It's practical though it's not competition standard as far as I know.

I love the look of an extended nail bed when done CORRECTLY. When done INcorrectly, it can look ridiculous and quite fake.

I love the look on photographs, but whenever i try recreate the look i am less impressed.its the exaggerated smile line which puts me off. I bought a set of tips with this deep curved smile line, i always offer it to clients but not many are prepared to stray from a more natiral looking french.

now this could just be my clients, i am always asked for the same natural french or nail biters(when i sculpt and masque pink to extend nail bed) and try as i do to excite them with nail art i dont get very far!!!!!

Funnily enough, the black and glamour stiletto nails that Glitz has just posted piccies of shows the type of nailbed I am not keen. Don't get me wrong, those nails are stunning Glitz - but I'd like them far more if the pink didn't go beyond the end of the nail and the black started there instead (like you would do on a french smile line). Just my view - as I say, those nails are stunning and I could never do them, but I don't like the pink bit!

No ........ you are not the only one. Glad you had the courage to say it out loud!!

I have never done nails with the idea being to make them look fake!

Natural has always been my signature nail ... PERFECT natural.

I do not like exaggerated anything .. I do not care for extreme smiles which often make the nail bed appear squat and shorter than it actually is, and I equally do not like over extended nail beds that go beyond the end of the finger.

I think it is unrealistic and wrong that so many new techs are encouraged to think these exaggerated 'looks' are what they should be aiming for in the salon when in fact it is not the case at all.

In hair competitions one sees unbelieveable hair styles that are just done for 'fun' or competition etc but no one ever WEARS these styles.

What is done in competition for nails is exactly the same ... very few people WEAR nails that look like competition nails ... they scream FAKE to anyone who sees them and in fact put allot of women off having nails done when they think they are going to leave the salon looking like a 'porn star'.

@geeg

Thanks God-gustum non disputandum......

That is exactly what springs to my mind when I see these yukky looking nails! IMO

Can I ask why anyone would have to have the 'courage' to view a personal opinion or preference?? Also another reply said they were 'scared' to say they didnt like them either??? SERIOUSLY???? This is a forum for all opinions and views and the fact that some people like one thing and other's don't makes everyones nails and this site more interesting...wouldnt it be so boring if we all liked and practiced the same kind of nails, as long as they are created correctly with no damage to the nn and hygienic...then each to their own i say. I personal like to create natural looking nails, I love extenting the nail bed on stumpier nailed clients and I hope my extentions/enhancements don't look fake. But I also love looking through the gallery looking at all the elaborate and artist designs...Grow some balls people, if you dont like it, just say, people have put their pics up there to be viewed by the public, they have to expect differences of opinon.

Thank You wendyrose!!!!
