I qualified late last year with NSI and spent a fortune on training. Like most people I wanted to offer other services but as I was just starting out really had to think about what services I had to offer. One of the courses I took amongst others was hollywood toes, so you will imagine my surprise when I received an e-mail from NSI giving the link to their youtube page giving full instructions on how to do hollywood toes. I was under the impression that you should be fully qualified to offer these kind of treatments and know about nail anatomy, and nails diseases etc. Surley by posting this kind of video they are just encouraging non qualified techs.

An excellent supplier should always support professionalism and support their professionals.

Sadly this does not always happen and is one of the reasons the nail industry is in the state it is in today in the UK with many suppliers selling to non trained consumers (your customers) and not offering anything but lip service to education.

There are companies who DO support their professionals, who DO offer the best education money can by, and who DO not sell to anyone without proof of certification of nail training, and as you would expect DO offer the top quality products that support their professional's business and enhance their customers' experience.

I have to say I was pretty surprised that they would post a video on youtube. I still have a wish list of training that I was looking to do with NSI but I am now seriously thinking of looking at other companys to complete my training (...or I could always just look on youtube and hope for the best!!!!)

me too, paid for training on hollywood toes and have now found it on there webby and also info on a newsletter  a waste of my money!! i thought it was better to get trained in what you offer your customers.

perhaps if you complained direct to NSI you could negotiate a partial refund of your training fee. I know that face to face training is preferable, but with something like Hollywood Toes a good step by step video should be perfectly adequate for someone already trained in nail enhancements.

To be honest its not just about the money I paid for the training. Apart from anything else I would not work on anybody unless I was trained or insured to do so. But I understand that a training video may be adequate for somene already trained but I feel that posting the video on youtube is not necessarily aimed at trained (or insured) nailed techs.

This proves what I have said before that you should be careful before booking training courses. We should all bear in mind that business is business and we need to choose our training and training provider carefully.

With more experience you will become wise to these things, for now mark it down as a lesson learned the hard way!

From experience I don't think you will lose any business by this and you have the knowledge that you had proper training but you may feel you have wasted money. Look on the bright side, you won't do it again, will you?

Good luck with your career, if you enjoy it as much as I do you will be a very happy person! :) xxx
