HI Guys

My husband has had problems recently with a trapped nerve in his shoulder which has now lead to a re-occuring sciatica nerve problem.

He has had treatments from the chiropractor which helpd initially but he is now getting frustrated with how long he taking to heal and is also frustrated with the pain. He feels (and so do I) that there is a limit on how many pain killers a person can take to avoid any long term problems.

He has read on the internet about acupuncture for this problem and I just wondered if ay of you have any experience of acupuncture.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Hehe - yes i am old enough to remember Olga Corbett - thought i would be like her one day - liked my food more than gymnastics though.

He is booked in for a session this afternoon so we will see.

Thanks for your advice.

Different people react in different ways to acupuncture - some people love it and some don't find it any use. When it works it's really really good though - well worth a try if your husband's at his wit's end.

Another thing you could try is massage. Find a good reputable therapist and give that a go. It can have some amazing results.

Thanks Rouge

I do massage but I am not an expert on remedial massage so have told him that he is better of going to see more of a specialist in injuries for massage. I am worried that my massage may do more harm than good.

Thanks for the tip.

That's why I said find a GOOD REPUTABLE therapist. :) They will be able to tell if it's something they can help with or not. I've turned clients away in the past if I wasn't happy about their condition or sure that i could help them. A good therapist will, as you know (!), always do a thorough consultation and medical history too.
If the therapist is good, the chances of a massage making your husband's condition worse are pretty remote, I'd think.
I hope he gets it sorted soon, there's nothing worse than being in constant pain, and I speak from experience there!

i have been havin accupuncture for a few months now. I started off my chiropractor putting a couple of needles in to eay muscle tension. And i like it so much i found a chinese medicine practitioner. i now have indonesian massage, accupuncture, cppig and reiki from this one guy, i see him weekly, and i go to the chiropractor monthly.

I have had a really positive experience, but it does get expensive. Im not spendng about £150 a month just in treatments to try and stop the back pain!!!

My mum had a course of 10 acupuncture sessions a couple of years ago, she was having trouble with her shoulder. It really helped her out alot, they do get you to buy loads of herbal tablets and teas etc. to go with it though, which are quite expensive actually!
