god I feel all grown up as today I bought some loreal foundation.

I've applied a little with my fingertips and it looks OK but if you look up REALLY CLOSE then you can see little dots all over the face, is it dry skin (I exfoliated about a week ago) or have I applied it wrong.

I would think it was dry skin, though without looking it's difficult to tell exactly.

First I would suggest exfoliating approx 2 to 3 times a week,no more.moisturise every day.

Apply moisturiser, but make sure not directly before application of foundation, this is because the foundation will slide off and not last.Try applying approx half hour before hand.

You can use either a brush or a sponge, with a sponge, make sure it's slightly damp but not too wet.I like to use a brush as it gets into all the nooks and crannies.

The skin acts as a foundation,a bit like painting a door and not stripping all of the old paint off.Get a good foundation and the end result will look fabulous.

thanks Babs,

thought it might be dry skin, but wanted to check.

as its quite liquidy, should I still apply it with a damp sponge? If I use a brush, would I dampen that? would a clean blusher brush do it?

Do you tend to have oily skin, large pores?

I have never seen dry skin show "holes" in makeup, but my skin does if I don't do it just right, and I have very combo skin- the holes show in my "oilier" spots- and those holes are my pores showing through.

Dry skin would show your foundation differently- it would LOOK dry, flaky almost- large pores show "holes", and can be covered if you rub in with a damp sponge, and make sure you ALWAYS apply an oil free moisturizer before you apply ANY makeup. :)

And no, don't dampen a brush, just make sure if it's real hair that you shampoo and condition your brushes on a regular basis. I would suggest using the sponge, especially as a beginner. :)

It's actually a cool trick to mix a bit of your base with a bit of moisturizer on the top of your hand before applying.

:)

I also suffer dry skin.. and have found that a good spray tan on my face.. and regular moisturizing is a far better option for me then liquid foundation..
all i do now is apply bronzer if a want to dress up my skin!
since i have started this i can now wear concealer brushed on around my nose chin and eyes blended well.. my skin tone tends to be off balance.. but face tan and moisturizer have helped loads!

hi it sounds like you have dry skin so please dont use anything with a powdery finish, you can skimp on lippy and mascara etc but you should invest in a good foundation, lorel is the cheaper end of the market, so why not try elizabeth arden flawless finish compact(just damp the sponge and u will get a perfect finish for dry or even older skin)clinique also do an excellant foundation for dry skin,so do channel, go 2 debenhams etc ask each counter for samples and b sure to tell them them you dont wont any product with a powdery finish (this will emphasise the dryness otherwise)and rember always use a damp sponge with any foundation you buy, also if you decide on a spray tan make sure there is no alchol content in the ingrediants the worse for this is santropez and calafornain tan they wil only aggreivate the condition hth

thanks everyone.

yes, will definetly be exfoliating more and will use a damp sponge.

the surface of my skin looks like little white dots all over it, like a light layer of talc has been applied.

I have comb skin, my nose air is always oily so I generally just use a loose powder on that area.
Its the cheek area that tends to look like it has these white flecks all over it, so assuming that the skin is a bit drier there (but its not dry its normal).

My make-up regime consists of concealer on the spots on my jawline, a little concealer around the nostrils. Eye liner and lippy with a dusting of loose powder (which DOESN'T show up these flecks).

But my skin is uneven in tone, red patches, open pores, always had spots but they;ve moved from the chin and mouth area to the jawline so not so noticeable.

I never use blusher as I havent got any cheeks!!!! just big rosy round things.

When I dampen sponge I usually blot against towel, you can use kitchen roll or tissue,it's crucial that the majority of water is NOT left in the sponge or the foundation will go on smeary(not a good look:green:)

For red areas on the face I use a green concealer pencil, this rebalances the pigmentation differences.Apply sparingly and only to the red areas.

Try using a moisturiser for sensitive skin,i.e Intral by Darphin and only use an exfoliator for sensitive skin, nothing too harsh.

Send me your addy via pm and I will send you some samples and you can have a try of our Darphin range,I will send you some Eve Taylor samples also.

You can still apply blusher but high on the jaw line, purse your lips and follow with a nice sweep, going almost from the cheek up towards almost the corner of the eye,not too heavy though. This will define your cheeks a bit more.Hth:hug:

thanks babs, thats very generous of you.

have pm'ed you.

i also suffer with very bad dry skin.i use the hemp moisturiser for my face which is from the body shop and then max factor flawless perfection foundation which also has a base coat.if you go into boots and ask you can try before you buy.
ive tried other foundations but i just dont like them as much.it stays on all day and i have no problems applying it with a sponge and i had never used foundation before.i love it,ive actually just bought a new one as it was half price!
