Had my first experience of Beauty UK at the NEC today and I have to say I won't be rushing back next year.

I was very disappointed at the lack of big companies there - no sweet squared, no OPI, no perfect nails etc etc., and the whole shabby appearance of everything.

Still ended up spending a small fortune on what was there though, so maybe the lack of big names was a good thing.

What did you other geeks who attended think?

I didn't go this time ... there is one stand that they have that, for me, sums up their attitude to the event. Really, what does a Tarot / Palmistry stand have to do with the beauty trade and why is it at a professional trade event?

I looked at the exhibitor list and wasn't really that impressed.

I went today mainly for the Moor spa stand and the young nails, spent time with the fab clare kelly and steven Dodd,
I think the palm reading stand was in holistic part didnt venture down that way much.

I've not long come home after spending the last 2 days there.
I went for a reason and was looking for something specific and stayed focused ( well for the 1st day anyway )
So having got my reserch done on day 1 and bought what I needed in the morning of day 2 I had the rest of the day to mooch around.

I was dissapointed in the lack of nail companies but the ammount of spray tan companies there must have made competition tough for them because they were allmost throwing the free samples at us ..I'm not complaining :green:

There were a few 'tacky' stalls there that had no place in a beauty show but, hey each to their own and business wise they probably made more money on the day than the profesional beauty relevent stalls.....good for them, it's all money in the bank. I wasn't interested so I just avoided them.

I had a tarrot reading done in the holistic part...a bit of fun for me but again for those that wern't interested..well just walk on by...again good buisness thinking, I bet they made a packet aswell.

Unless a company has something new and different on offer I don't think it's worth the cost of them to attend these shows...face it most of us do our salon shoping online anyway.

As for me, well I had 2 fab days off work and thoroughly enjoyed myself

I went to the show, it's my first in years. As im mobile I thought it would be an idea as you can struggle to keep up with new things on the market.
I dont think ill bother again, I was dissapionted there were no real deals to be had.
I drove for 4hrs and for not much. :irked:

It was my first time at the NEC, and I wont be rushing back either. My own fault really I couldn't find the list of who would be attending else I wouldn't have gone.
Hardly any nail companies, and plenty of, bag, jewelry, and other non professional type stalls...even rio..bless em.

It bugs me. Why does a lot of ppl think that if you go and purchase at these show it should be a bargain?
Tha majority of the stalls do a vat free promotion and if they see you are genuinly interested on a product they will fall over themselfs to help you.
You can get the best bargains online anyway.

Those that didn't help didn't get my custom, if they can't help at the show it wont say much about thier after sales service anyway. So it's a good way of 'homworking' your suppliers.

It cost the companies a small fortune to attend these shows and they have a lot of experience in knowing how to suss the genuine potential customer from the ones that are there to get a freebie (I've been one of those just after a freebie ppl )

A show is just that, a 'showcase' of companies products, a way of gaining new customers.

I agree that the nail companies were a bit thin on the ground but like I said the cost of just being there is ridiculous ( greed of part of the show organisers mayby ?)

I went to see demo's and to give my support to the suppliers I deal with, to say hello and to put names to faces. Its a good way to build a relationship with your supplier and feel the passion of your industry.
I was mesmorized at the young nails stand steven and clare made me want to rush home and pick up my brush and mix powders together. They were fabulous and took time out to show my trainee where she could progress on her cuticle area as she was struggling. I went to see Jo and Dee from moor spa to show my support and get an insight on new up and coming products and to put a name to a face so they knew who they were dealing with.
I didnt actually buy much products but i came away with a wealth of information

Did anyone sign up for the NVQ?

I signed up as I would like the NVQ cert..........They advised they will visit my place of work to assess...

The show was ok, getting smaller I think....Nice to look around at different products and see them in action, this is something a show is good for.....

I have decided that I need a new spray tan machine.....

I have to be honest - I really liked it, it had a much friendlier feeling that excel, which I didn't go much on. . .

I agree about the spray tanning though - my god how many companies???

Oh yessssssssssssssss everyones a sprayer ! lol

It was my first show so I have nothing to compare it too, I mainly went to see how the nail comps work and wow do they do some great work. I too am a big Young Nails fan and it was lovely to put faces to the people behind the emails, and their work, well what can I say, It was a pleasure to watch and I came away all inspired to try new things. There were a lot of tanning companies there and teeth whitening, lol but I just strolled around till somthing I fancied took my eye. I enjoyed it and I did get a few bargains, mostly VAT free, I spent more than I should of, but we wont mention that to the husband ;o). Cx

I couldn't have put this any better. It dose cost the exhibitors a small bank loan to attend these events and sometime dont even break even. This is why some of the big names are very picky which shows they can afford to attend (greed on the part of the show organisers mayby)

So from me a big well done to those companies that did attend the show as in this climate lets face it not everyone has the money.
