hi, once ive compleatly finished a nail ( tip and acrylic overlay) the free edge is very bendy so that i can actually bend it so far down it will come off the nail at the natural nails free edge. my training manual tells me when the tips have been applied and cut to lenght to thin the free edge slightly with a file, which i have done. and it says the acrylic overlay should be about 1mm thick at the apex, then thined toward the free edge.
i'm only just training so i can only follow what im told but it just seems too thin...please help

Hi again,
Are you still struggling:D Have you applied the tip properly with your glue? The tip once glued should be really strong and not move even when you cut it to size. You must get this stage right before you apply to L&P. Let me know if you still can't do it - but keep practicing:D

To be honest these sorts of problems are very hard to give an answer to from a writen description but could be solved in 5 minutes with a live tutor. I know this isn't what you want to hear but if you're having problems with basic skills you need face to face training.

My suggestion? Invest in some classroom education with a reputable company.

what glue are you using as this could make a difference. If you are training are you buying the glue from the high street as these are not as strong as the professional ones we buy, and also this could also be the tip as well.

Personally I think that it could be for a number of different reasons. Maybe not the right sort of adhesive, it could be poor quality tips, and also it might be that you are not applying enough l & p. You only need to stratch off the free edge tip just so the acrylic adheres to it so maybe you are filing it too thin. You need to build up the apex to make the nails strong and maybe add a little bit more product at the free edge. You should end up with a nice c curve, if you get the right balance then the nails should be strong. Hope that this helps. Abi

The tip cannot be to thin (it's merely there to keep the product from falling t the ground so to speak) and tbh the glue has nothing to do with it being bendy .

The problem could lie in your application, the product (in this case l&P) should have the strength in itself, so if it's very bendy after application, then you are either not applying enough or the product is crap (I'm not familiar with the products)

But as a second possibility why on earth are you bending the tip with or without product??? If I bend mine, yes they will snap (they are not bendy though, they are just thin and lightly flexible) so why??? Or am I not undestanding the word bendy correctly?

its more than likely due to your apex either being too small [not enough product applied or too much being filed off] or being badly positioned.

sounds like crappy tips to me....
Acrylic will adhere quite well to ABS tips (even without buffing), perhaps you have oily fingertips (when pressing the nails on) and this is what prevents the acrylic from adhering....... dunno, as stated, if you had one on one, they could fix your issue in about 5 secs.

hi, thanks for everyones replys.
im using the nail trainer with the special nail trainer glue and the tips that came with it. i wasnt bending them when applied on my own nails lol, just the nail trainer, just because they felt really thin once id finished them. i will try not thining the tip so much, a little more product and less fileing.

I would say nail trainer is great for some things, but tbh,, I just practised on lots of people for free, friends off friends etc, but I made sure they would not be potential clients, as in I would never do peoples nails for free in them thinking there doing me a favour, worst thing in the world.

I always, always, try and sculpt with my brush and I must say when I get a lovely new set, or when my maintenance appt comes around and they are great it will only take me about 15 mins to refine the nail.I try to aim to sculpt with brush and not even use your file to shape, just to be able to use my white block to refine. xx

I got my step daughter whom is 13yo and all her mates and they were always willing to get their nails done. I have a nail shape which I hate sculpting, I cant explain it its sort of cross between bitten, flat and ski jump, it makes your z1 look bulky at the hips, iygwim, bit off subject soz lol xxxxx
