Hi All

A friends mum has just been advised that she may not see xmas due to the bone cancer..

My friend has asked me if I would put her a set of enhancements on as she has never had nice nails and she has asked for this as a sort of dying wish (sorry if this causes anyone to be upset).

I advised a nice mani but the lady wants really nice long tips etc

Im going to speak with my insurance company first but apart from problems with L&P not adhering to her nails due to them being very weak what else should I be aware of.

Has anyone had any experience with a client with progressive cancer.

I would be grateful for any advice x

My Father had bone cancer (in the spine) and it is a very painful form of cancer. I don't know how quickly you can do a set of nails but I think an important aspect would be how long she has to sit. Maybe Popits would be a good idea.

i agree i just lost my dad to the same thing he had real issues with sitting still as it caused alot of pain the main thing would be to do it the quickest way they shouldn't have the problem with needing to be too strong as she is not going to be doing all the stuff we do in normal life

Yeah she is bed ridden so i would be at her bedside, this is fine im just going to get them on real quick for her but she can have plently of breaks and the like.....

Im more concerned that I dont do anything to make her uncomfortable, i think as she is so advanced that there isnt anything that would make her condition worse but im guessing that her nails are going to be very sensitive and brittle...

Hi,
I know it will be difficult for you to do. But what a nice treat for a dying lady. You will have to be strong yourself as you do them, I asume her daughter will be there with you to keep the chat going.
I too would suggest the PopIts, you may have to give her a break after a couple of nails. Do her pinkie 1st, see how she is, she may feel she doesn't want to continue, depending on how much pain she is in. You may find she falls asleep, and will wake up from time to time.
Whatever way you tackle this delicate situation I am sure you will do it in a most professional way.
Good luck
Lotsa luv x  x

i totally agree with poshfloss, i think what you are doing is something truely special and i applaude you for doing it. when my mum had breast cancer, all she wanted to feel was like a woman again when she was at her lowest and believe me, even when the beauty treatments were causing her pain, she refused to let the therapist stop.

the therapist , sally, was lovely, so caring, came to the house, and just did her job as if my mum was a well and healthy lady and that was what my mum said was the best thing about it all and she felt like she could just be her old self for a bit.

If you have any particular concerns a macmillan nurse would be a great one to ask as i know sally my mums therapist contacted them first to get advice re any possible obstacles and allergies etc.

Its a lovely thing you are doing.

Awww thank you all.....

Im very prepared and actually looking forward to it, I think she prob will fall asleep bless her....

I have asked her daughter to speak to the Mac Nurse tomorrow, but her mum said I dont care how much it hurts (lol) she just wants the nails before its too late.....

I will be doing them later in the week x

Its a very special thing your doing , and I hope it all goes well for you both. Good luck hun..x

If possible, I'd try and time my appointment to start when her dose of pain med is kicking in, so that she will be at her most comfortable when you start. Well done for doing this lovely service, and I hope it all goes well. xx
