Just a quicky Geeks.

Sals came over to mine last night to have a play with my Brisa bits n bobs. She was loving the consistency of the clear and pink sculpting gels until we got to the white! Sals was shocked !! To be fair, I was a little too. The white was quite think and clumpy (even having had a good stir), so it wasn't easy to work with.

Trying the white paint on gel instead, that was a lot thinner, which I would expect it to be because it's on a brush. It ended up easier for Sals to take some gel out of the bottle.

My question to you Brisa techs, is this normal? Or should all three of the scultping gels be the same? Maybe I have a dud sculpting white!

Thanks!

xx

I *think* its to do with the amount of pigment in the white gel,
If you think about the look and feel of a white bead of L&P compared to a pink one.

Sounds right to me....The white sculpting gel is great though....when using it for sculpting (as it was designed for) it stays where its put and creates a lovely strong enhancement.

Thanks Clare.

Thinking about it, that kind of makes sense. I don't use my white in a pot, but just looking at it being used last night, it looked absolutely awful!

If that's the case though, I'm wondering why the paint on is thinner when it can be used for all the same reasons as the sculpting!

I don't use the white sculpting TBH (I always sculpt in clear and then use POW) but mine isn't thick and lumpy.
Has it started to cure in the pot at some time ?

you cant use the paint on for scultpting...its for painting on the enhancement after its been built.

Think about it....you wouldn't want to be trying to build your free edge on a sculpting form with a runny gel ...would you ??

I don't think so, I'm really careful to make sure they don't go anywhere near the lamp. I was snatching them away from Sals last night just to make sure!

So if you look at all three of your gels, do they all look the same? I mean the way they sit in the pots? (This sounds ridiculous doesn't it!)

To be fair, I do actually use my paint on for sculpting. I was taught this only in November on my conversion.

No, the white is 'denser' than the clear or pink but certainly not lumpy:)

 you actually use the POW to sculpt out your free edge ???

How ? as Angie says it will just run everywhere, or do you sculpt out in clear and then use POW ?

no they do look different in the pots , the white is thicker, you can see where I've used some and it hasn't leveled off, the pinks are level iykwim xx

unless there are parted off the gel that have hardened and have cured in the pot (or the side of the pot) I think its OK , I like using it tbh super strong xx

Hopefully Sals can get on here at some point soon and chat about it as she's more of a gel expert that me!

I was trying to convert her and it was the white which put her off!

I was taught to use pow over a layer of clear and then apply another layer over the top . (using tips) always found this to be strong enough.

This is probably the reason why I'm not loving gel!

Hand on heart was taught to do this. My model came away with two sculpted nails from the paint on. And I'm walking out of the place thinking how messy it all was.

Now I know! Ha ha, keep having flash backs at how I was rushing it under the lamp.

But still, the white in a pot when used last night was really difficult for Sals, it didn't really level off so there were dents here there and everywhere.

Sure the POW can be used as a sandwich between the sculpting gels...but thats not what was said.

I am really struggling to see why a Creative educator would teach you to sculpt using POW alone...there is little to no strength in POW.

For the purpose of sculpting you wouldn't want a gel that levels off....you are building a shape...how can you do this with something that moves...?? as to how many lumps and bumps you get, thats all down to application.

I don't see how it could be possible. It wouldn't build up at all, it would just run off.

I completely see where I'm going wrong with this now - thank you.

My expertise is in L&P, and have only worked with gel on a couple of people since, and that's on tips, so haven't had to sculpt again. It was the reason of using the paint on and it literally going everywhere that I didn't want to sculpt with it on my clients. Even the model I took with me was shocked as to how messy it was.

As I said before, hopefully Sals can get on here and question the consistency of the white as she's got a better knowledge of gel than me.
