Hello, was just wondering how often every one changes their brush?xx

Its a bit like how long is a piece of string, all depends on the following:

  • How often its used
  • How often its left inbetween clients, is it left to go dry?
  • How well you look after it
  • How well you store it
  • Do you use brush cleaner, if you do try not to this damages brushes, use your normal monomer to clean brush
Sure theres others but those spring to mind. Hth's

anne xx

I have lots of brushes for different things all from CND. My acrylic brush (and I always have 2 or 3 of these) I change every year or so.

My gel brushes I hardly ever change.

Art brushes ... rarely ever.

You should always have a spare brush .. you can't afford not to.

While on the subject of brushes, i think my brush needs to be changed and i only bought it in the new year so less than 6 months old! I have a CND Ultra sculptor, i use it 5 days of the week so it is being left for 2 days of not being used. I clean it in monomer, not brush cleaner and it has started yellowing my paper when i clean it at the end of the service and it started loosing it hairs when it was only 3 months old. Not too sure if im being heavy handed with it too because when i do clean it and wipe it dry, i fold the table towel over the top of the brush hairs, hold down and pull the brush out. IYKWIM. Thats when i notice the yellowing, its coming from the base of the hairs. I didn't think i was doing anything wrong because this is how i was always shown. Maybe im being to heavy handed?

Sounds like you could be..! I do exactly the same as you but I do lighten up on the pressure when I remove the brush from the paper.

If the yellowing is not showing up in your work, but only on the paper, then don't worry about it.

I haven't been worrying about the yellowing too much, its the loosing the hairs which is the pain, especially when one decides to pop out when im doing the smile lines, i have to stop and quickly pull it out!

The thing is, i've been putting it off buying a new one for months now, just because there's always another cool product i must buy from CND, now that you gone and brought out Shellac, im still putting off buying a new brush! End of this month i want the Shellac Salon Kit, the next month i want the new lamp! Will the need for a new brush hold off for another 2 months?? Oh i wish i was rich!

I'm sure you will cope with the odd lost hair for a month or two.

Never pull hairs out, simply cut them off at thRemember in CND brushes they are all hand ties not glued into the ferrule ... Don't pluck!

I don't need to cut the hairs off geeg, they are already loose and easily pulled out. Thats why im thinking im being too heavy handed when cleaning it, i think the stitching or hand tie has come loose! lol I dont think i have 1 service where i dont loose a hair. I dont know if i will have any left in two months time! But i will try and see if it will last out.

Shove some gel bond down there and see if this helps. You can't let the situation keep going on. else you will have to get a new brusjh and remember to snip and not pluck if it happens again.

Thanks geeg i will try that one out. But i have never ever needed to snip or pluck a hair out so i know this is not to blame. I will be a bit more gentle when cleaning also, to see if this will help.

Well....
I have had my Ezflow 508 for 4 years & I look after it very well, i love it, it's still got plenty of 'spring' left in it. I use it for my glitters moreso nowadays as I prefer my other brush for P&W.
I have an ultra sculptor from CND which is 18months to 2 yrs old & still going strong - I use it for my P&W, it's fab for precision & tucking those smile lines.

I have an pro-styler, which i don't use much, used it & it was yellowing my tissue, so I've tried to clean it in all ways known too, but it's died - bless it. I just can't bring myself to throw it out as it's hardly been used - which caused the problem in the first place!

If I notice I haven't used either my US or 508 for a day I'll immerse it in monomer & gently wipe it & replace it in it's keeping place.

OMG I just wrecked my brush! :o I didn't have any Gelbond so used a liquid adhesive and it came out too fast and set too fast before i had the chance to shape it! lol
Oh well it was a tired brush anyways so i have now laid it to rest.
I have just brought out my 508 which i also bought in the new year, used it about 6 times, couldn't really get the hang of it so packed it away. I have just dunked it into monomer now and its still looking good with no sign of any contamination so im going to have a play with it today and hopefully i will get used to it. (I can remember back that i did start to get the hang of it after a few days, but i had already placed an order and my Ultra sculptor arrived so swopped over.) :)
