Hi everybody,

Although not a skin geek, my new salon project is going to feature beauty rooms and therapists and so I find that I have quite few questions in this area.

I am looking at either Dermalogica or Clarins for a facial / body line to use and retail but for the life of me I cannot find any contact details for Clarins that isn't along a consumer lines.

If anybody has any contact information for them with regards to using the products in a salon, could you post or pm me.

Thanks hugely in advance.

Hi,

Think this is the phone number for head office at cavendish place in London, 020 73076700.

I know Clarins used to be mega fussy about the salons they supplied they may not be now though. I think the start up is between 6 - 8k it is a lovely range to work with and the training is first class, also the treatments are heavenly I used to love doing them.

I adore Clarins but yes, they do want 6k-8k to set and don't forget that you can buy Clarins in Boots and Superdrug nowadays so you might not retail much.xxx

Thanks for the help guys. Much appreciated.

My main thoughts with taking on the Clarins line is that I wanted a well recognised professional brand (I adore the treatments personally), but the area where the business is to be set up isn't necessarily somewhere people have huge amounts to spend on retail products.

Personally for salon use I would prefer the Dermalogica or Decleor ranges, but I think their retail prices for products may be a little high.

If anyone has any thoughts as to a product line that could it the bill i'd be interested as i'm walking a line between being the nicest salon in town, and alienating people on price.

Thoughts always appreciated. Setup cost isn't too much of an issue as it's well budgeted for.

I love clarins too but would never buy it from a salon. You can get it in tesco and superdrug.
I also always get mine in John lewis everytime they do one of their promotions where they give you lots of other bits when you buy 2 full size products.
I do not think any salon can compete with those sorts of promotions unfortunately anyone with sense would not buy from a salon and your retail sales would be zilch.

Our Salon actually used to do VERY well with retailing Clarins. Clarins actually reward clients that buy from salons MORE than they do from Debenhams, HOF etc.

Firstly they do offer bonus time in salons (usually different from the stores, but nicer!) and secondly they have a loyalty card so every £10 spent on products gets you a stamp on the card and when you have collected a certain amount you can redeem that for a free facial.

Most salons that retail clarins are pretty high class and attract clients with money, we certainly didn't have any problems with clients going to a shop where they were selling it cheaper.

I have just started stocking Dermalogica in the salon and the retail prices are not much different from Clarins and it sells so easily.

I came across Ahava once while in Israel and although I bought a bunch of the body treatments for home use, i've never used their facial collections and so don't know too much about the performance.

I've heard Eve Taylor mentioned on the forum a whole bunch )mostly by mobile therapists?) but I have not come across it before.

Have you used either in a salon envrionment?

I rented a table in a Clarins Beauty Salon and the retail was enormous from both clients and non-clients of the salon x

How do you find the retailing with the Dermalogica?

Do you find that the customers enjoy the treatments in a relaxing / pampering fashion as much as the Clarins line?

Sorry for the questions, but I am torn in particular between these two brands

Hi,

I have worked for both brands in my own salon and department stores and they are both lovely products, the only thing I think is with Clarins is that if you have them in the salon you have to do every promotion and they have very clear guidelines of how they want you to promote etc. The back up with Dermalogica I found was fantastic and you also have the Dermal Institue which offers fab courses and offers all sorts of courses for your therapists to do which is great to keep them motitvated and also sales courses if their retailing needs a bit of tweaking. I don't think that because they re sold everywhere should necessarly be a problem but its nice to offer something that you can't get on the high street.
sorry if I am waffling its just that I think retail is very important in the salon and think that your clients should be using what you sell, also look at the mark up on the product, I think clarins was 33% and Dermalogica was 60% but this may have changed

Thanks for your input beautybird, any advice or experiences are helpful at this time as it's not really a decision that one can afford to get wrong.

Hi

I am a Dermalogica salon, I love it. I can't compare to Clarins but I find it retails so well. All my clients love the brand. There is also some exciting new products coming out soon!

With regards to it being expensive, its not when you consider:
a) you only require a small amount of product so it lasts longer
b) its quality with no irratating ingredients
c) its unisex (for the moment)

Hi
Forgot to add that the start up with Dermalogica can be done in 3 stages over 3 months so you can get everything and pay it in stages think start up was about £3000 with loads of freebies.
