Hi I've had this client now for about a year and every time she has nail ext's I never get to her appointment for her infils coz she has bitten them off:irked: this is very frustrating as my nails take 2 hours with cuticle work too so I ahve had to refuse to put them back on now as the most recent set I have put on her she has again bitten off but left to her she would just let me put them back on every time but I am not there doesn't seem much point if she is going to keep biting them off:rolleyes: I'm fed up with her actually but she has other treatments with me so I have to bite my tongue but I told her as nicely as I could that I will no longer do them for her as she is causing a lot of damage to her natural nail  she took this on board and said she would use the stick ons from now on which in my opinion would be better for her:grr:

What do you guys think I know I'm doing the right thing for her but would like your feed back please:)

hi hun,
how anoying for you after all that work! I think you've suggested the right thing, she'll just end up damaging her own nails if she carries on. Why does she keep biting them off in the first place? You'd think after paying for having nice nails done she'd want to keep them on as long as poss.

i can understand how you would be fed up if a client did that - i know that i would be. i would most likely do the same as you hun - yes its money in your till but its time and effort wasted on someone who doesnt appreciate it! Plus it makes your job harder next time trying to apply the nails as her own nails are damaged! You made a good decision and gave her reasonable advice that she obviously took on board. well done :Grope:

ps. might be a bit off the subject but i had a client who always came for her nails doing and would be rather heavy on them she would contact me no more than 7days after havening them on to ask me "how do i get them off" this was ongoing every fortnight for 6 months. i explained to her that she is better off using stickies and now she does but for special occasions she now has them done by me and removed by me as i advised. good result.

but I told her as nicely as I could that I will no longer do them for her as she is causing a lot of damage to her natural nail  she took this on board and said she would use the stick ons from now on which in my opinion would be better for her:grr:

Hi hun.....your so right she is damaging her natural nail keep biting them off.......her nails will be so paper thin....she wont have any nail left........

I just wanted to say....by the sounds of it ...your client wants nails all the time so i would tell her that stick on nails are just as damagin for her to use.......stick ons cause alot of greenies to her nails.......

If i were you i would tell your client the damage to biting and stick ons she is causing to her nails.....and if she contiues NO SALON will touch her nails as they will be damaged......do you do manicures..???......maybe if you did, offer her this and paint her nails (so she has something on them)....that way....YOUR looking after haer nails so they dont go thin xxx

Yeah I do do manicures I will definatley suggest this to her where it will get me I don't know but I can try:) it is very annoying to say the least so I 'm not going to advise stick ons either actually she said she was going to do these instead but if I can advise her otherwise I will she seems completely obsessed with biting them off I can't understand her atall:mad:

Is she a nail biter ????.....or it could be thatshe wants nails and finds them annoying when they are on......the thing is....she is throwing money away because she is not letting you do your job......it must be annoying.......try manicures for her ....... then if she is not biting her nails and using stick ons ....her nails will get better.....keep up your good work hun :wink2: xx

Ok...please do not take any of this the wrong way....

I am a nail biter and a nail tech...so I can see both sides of the coin....

But first and foremost I am replying as a nail biter to help you maybe understand your client a little more....

When I apply enhancements to myself...I don't suddenly become a non nail biter...the urge is there even more so because there is so much more to nibble at.
I don't bite the nails necessarily...but they are in my mouth...
Sometimes bits start to come off which is expected...so I pick and I nibble...
Then the nail might crack...etc etc...until voila! ten nails all nibbled off..!!!!

I can't help it....
Even if I have paid other techs for my enhancements I do it....then I am too ashamed to go back...

Now this is where I think you could take offence...but please don't because I know as a nail tech your intentions are purely what is best for your client...

But if I was told to use stick-ons I would be horrified....
Mainly because I would want your help...not to be told to use stick-ons which she has probably used before anyway....maybe she wanted a better solution....and to her detriment it hasn't worked ( talking about myself here too :D )

I would however, as a nail biter, be very happy to perhaps have manicures regularly and my nails painted professionally....and perhaps for special occasions have enhancements even though I am going to bite them off within a day or so....
Tell her the minute she wants to bite them off to make an appointment with you to have them removed professionally....You could always do a special deal for a removal and manicure if it made you feel better...

Nail biters are a pain...more so when you are a nail biting nail technician....

 for you....and good luck xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Stick on nails are terrible and will cause endless damage to her natural nails,
clients do not sanitise the nail plate as we do and end up gluing all sorts of nasties under them stick on`s,
they also just rip them off rather than soaking off so tear loads of the nail plate away too and they look dreadful
you need to give her weekly manicures to get the nails back into a good condition and then if she wants to wear enhancements again i would use fabric/silk wraps and keep her nails fairly short,
with wraps they are much thinner so she would find it hard to find any edge to bite at hth

Stickies are NOT the solution for biters.

As a former biter, I can attest to this.
She will simply rip and bite and tear those off as well. If they're stuck on with glue or adhesive, then this forced removal will be damaging as well.

The most important thing with biters is to offer support and encouragement.
I also find rewards help too.
Try "if you come back with all your nails on in 2wks, I'll do 'such & such' "
(1/2 off on a service, 1/2 on for art, or a free add-on, or a gift, or whatever...)
THEN when they prove that they can do it (because they DO want a freebie or to save money) THEN point it out to them, encourage them, congratulate them effusively. EMPHASIZE how well they've done; just as you would for a child or a puppy that has done well. Baby steps.

2nd most important thing, is to keep them SHORT. Just reaching the end of the finger.
Why?
  1. Biters are rough with their hands, so the less there is to 'bang', the less likely to chip/break/crack. They can tell you that they are not until they are purple in the face BUT if you have never had long nails, then you've never worried about how you use your hands, nor learned how to use them. This is a fact.
  2. IF there is a chip/break/crack, they will be tempted to nibble them ALL off (it never stops at only one finger)
  3. Even if there is nothing wrong with the nail, it's harder to nibble off as there's no length to grab onto
  4. 10 short nails look better than 5 or 8 long ones with a bunch of broken ones, or nibbled ones in between. Explain that to your client!.

I wouldn't recomend anyone to use stick ons. This could be really dangerous. It is also not the proffessional answer to her troubles.

If she is removing her enhancements incorrectly she will more than likely apply the stick ons incorrectly and will remove them exactly the same - with her teeth! If anything all this will cause more damage to her nails, not less.

I think you will get the odd person who will never get on with enhancements, these people are sometimes just better left too it. I have tried everything - thin layers of gel, polish, coloured gel, wrap overlays, if they want to they'll get everything off!! xx

I had one client that no matter what I tried she just couldn't keep them on ... and trust me I tried EVERYTHING! Weekly appointments (she just bit them off sooner!), polish so she couldn't see what was going on underneath and to give a warning sign "nails, don't eat me", getting the family to watch her, having them short, having them long, thin, thick ... well you get the picture!!!

Some people just can't help themselves and so I advised that she was best not to have them as the damage to her natural nail was getting too much and thus not good. And that I'm afraid is the end of the story! And I hate admitting failure with a client!

Wearing enhancements is a two way partnership - we do our part and the client has to do theirs, if either one fails then the ending is not a happy one!

Stick ons are not a long term solution, but for the odd party etc then possibly! However why not suggest party nails . ie just apply the tips and a polish, no chance of greenies and very easy to soak off in acetone.
