I work in a salon self employed but they take appointments for me, at the moment it takes me between 1hr 45 and 2hrs to do a set and when clients are calling enquiring some are saying this is too long. I'm trying to get my time down but its hard as I dont even have clients everyday yet. The salon owner thinks I should switch to a system that is quicker so I can make more money (I pay 35% to them at the moment) some clients are getting there nails done in under 30mins. What should I do?

Thanks xx

Which system takes 30 mins????

:eek:Under 30 mins, phew that's hard going even for the best of the best:green:Sure she's not living in cloud cuckoo land????

which system that takes 3omins LASTS???????

it is not always a case of bums on seats explain to him that if he/she wants a bad reputation for his/her salon then go for it, you will find the clients that want a GOOD service and not just in done out!!!

You aren't even taking that long the norm is 1hr 3mins for a full set and 1hr for rebalance the more clients you get the quicker you get but don't rush yourself as that is when things get sloppy and bad habbits start xx

Keep the faith! I have been doing nails for almost 14 yrs and it still takes me any where from a hour to a hour and a half. That is just how long it takes. I have maybe gotten faster by, maybe fifteen minutes. Big whoop. There is no system out there if properly done that will take you less than thirty minutes. Sure they can go to the local NSS place and get them done, but they aren't getting perfection. This is where you can really sell yourself and the product you use. Educate both the clients you have and your co workers and tell them it isn't about the time it takes to do the nails, it's the quality. Perfection takes time! Good Luck!

I have no idea what these places are using! I know of 2 actual nail salons and one of these is skippin most of the prep and they are using tips where as I sculpt and they take around 50 mins, the other place they are taking around and 1hr and 15 but it seems to be beauty salons that they are getting them done this quick, I should perhaps call and enquire what they are using?

Hi Honey

Try not to get yourself to upset by this these people who can do nails in 30min are poss using a system where by you tip and dip. (NOT NAIL EXTENSIONS)

This system takes no skill at all and can be learned in one day.

So keep you chin up and know that you are providing a skilled service to you clients yes it may take you a little longer therfore the nails will last longer so we have client satisfaction.

Which means they will return to you for thier next set.

thats a really goog idea hun do some market research xx

Hi Sarah

I live in Fife too and I can tell you that the majority of the salons in this county are using tip and dip, for some reason its really popular in this part of the country! Not in Tayside or Lothian but definitely Fife. But they look horrid and last for a day so dont even worry about it!

Are you the only nail tech in your salon hun? Or do you mean there are other nail techs within your salon who do them in 30 mins????

We all take between 1.15hrs and 2.0hrs - the shortest being someone who's been doing nails for 6 years, the longest being me! But the clients dont complain, as its been said on these boards loads, I'm sure clients would prefer to have beautiful nails that last done in 2 hours than a set done in 30mins which dont look/last as well!

We also use tips or do overlays, however, I would imagine that getting sculpting forms on would take as much time as tailoring tips (correct me if I'm wrong, Geeks?) so I wouldnt worry about that part.

I personally think that 30 mins is an unrealistic time for a proper L&P set, maybe they are using tip and dip as the others have suggested?

Maybe I should leave a script with the salon owner so she can refer to it when clients are saying 2hours is too long ? x

At Last someone wa a bit o sense.

Here in west lothian is is defo sculpt or proper tips and overlay.

In saying that I have taught quite a few grils over the bridge in the last year and they I know a sculpt or tip and overlap.

Mayby one day in Fife they will see the light NO MORE tip and dip LOL:Grope:

We should start a campaign in fife no more tip and dip lol

No quite the opposite!! - let them tip and dip, then they will be well impressed with our nails when they try us:)

Having worked in the nail industry for 13 years, i have seen this happening over and over again. You just keep reminding yourself that you have been taught to the highest standards. Also remember, your clinets might have been to other salons before and had nails done by a tech that dosnt even know the meaning of prep. Dont know if you have had a client yet that has asked when you have put cool blue on "oh excuse me dear, what is this you are using" and you tell them exactly what this product is for, and they say "Oh, i have been to salons before, and i have never had this done". It looks better on your part, ok might take a bit longer, but its a vital part of the service. Im only using that as an example. Your time will come down before you know it, but as all the other girls have said, KEEP AT IT, YOU WILL SOON SEE YOUR TIME COMING DOWN, AND THE QUALITY WILL STILL BE THERE.

Hey when they try sculpt they will know the diff:lol:

why not go into these places and see for yourself?

you can tell them that yours is a thorough, luxury treatment.

they might be knocking them out in 30 mins hun but do they have any return clients...? its the return clients that make our money...not the one off's.....and if the nails aren't lasting or nice then who's going to go back !!

i wouldn't worry about them...or give them any of your time.

Just do what you do and i bet your around longer than they are...once they have saturated the Cheep'os with no sense of what a good nail is and a poo one they wont have anymore clients do .... where as you will have maintained your standards....and have return clients that will keep you busy for many a year. x
