currently on mat leave, and am trying to decide what to do when i return to work in the spring ..
was thinking of offering eyelash extensions, makeup and shellac fingers & toes .. but dont want to spread myself too thin and as i plan to reduce the amt of bridal work i do (makeup) i dont think it will be worth the cost of me maintaining my makeup kit
my cousin who lives in the usa, specialises solely in eyelash extensions and she is in demand as i guess her clients think of her first when considering a set (rightly or wrongly) she found when she introduced other treatments they were not so popular - do you think i could specialise in e/l extensions alone, would it work here in the uk .. would have a dedicated web site and offer specials like lash parties and bridal packages also
any thoughts much appreciated x

I don't just yet but I intend to specialise on lash extensions and air brush make up.

I don't think you could do lash parties as it takes about 2 hours for a set.

I am on maternity but going back to my Lettings job next week and plan to do this part time evenings and weekends see how I get on and then do nails course in about 6 months and add on spray tans too.

I think that therapists who offer one speciality service can market themselves as specialists in their field. With the right marketing (which it sounds like you are on track with via your website) you can become a lash guru :DPerhaps you could offer other lash services such as tinting and perming?
I would have loved to have booked a lash tech last year for my wedding.
Perhaps the way around the time scale issue that Victoria J raised is to partner up with another make up artist/therapist in your area so that clients can book you both for the day and share the cost in a party style.
This is something I know myself and my friends would do.

Hope it all works out for you and enjoy your maternity leave ;)

hi there
thanks for your prompt reply ..
was planning to do just the "flicks" at the lash parties, and perhaps optional shellac fingers and/or toes .. thought this would work well for hen nights, proms, parties etc
i dont mind doing the odd local bridal makeup by request, but want to try and avoid those long jobs that take you 50+ miles away, plus pro makeup kit is so expensive to maintain

thanks burdy, great idea about teaming up with someone else for the parties
i too wish i cuold have had lash extensions when i got married 5 yrs ago, but had never heard of them then, lol
and shellac was a mere twinkle in some lab techs eye,lol

i think you can make a sucess of anything so long as you put in the hard work. if you don't try, you'll never know :) x

Hi Blush
I'm currently working as a P.A. and fancied getting into makeup and stumbled across lash extensions.
I'm planning on specialising in lashes, I've just done a course with Glam Lash and have done a few of my friends.
I think once I've mastered it and it's the only procedure I do I'm hoping it becomes a case of people will come to me as I'll be recoginsed in specialising in the procedure.
Fingers crossed. ;)
Best of luck to you

Hi Blush

I am a qualified beauty therapist but i would say that 90% of my diary is taken up with eyelash extensions, at the minute minx and shellac are also very popular but i would say its the lashes im known for and I like this so yes def you can just specialise in these xx

we run a lash bar in a city centre shopping mall offering just lash ext , xx go for it xx but choose your brand carefully

thanks everyone, youve given great encouragement ..
do you think would be a good idea to train in eyelash / brow tinting also?
can i be cheeky and ask approx how many clients established mob lash techs have a week? love the idea of a lash bar, but thats a long way off!
was thinking about training with flirties, but dont want to sign up until baby is born, then spend 6 mths or so practicing before launch my new venture .. really undecided what to do about the make up side of things now, was doing quite well but found it all a bit too stressful and had to keep ploughing profits back into my kit, will have to give it some thought
thanks again everyone x

i would def suggest doing lash/ brow tinting training at some point, although its not always needed its great to see a lush set of dark lashes when you are applying your extensions it does make it so much easier especially when you first start plus alot of my clients do also book eyebrow shape or tidy to go with their flirty lashes hehe xx
