I have a problem with the skin on my fingers (& thumbs) ive never had this before but over the last few months they seem to almost "shed" skin.

Once the skin has peeled away they are fine again for a week or two then the process starts over again!

Ive looked at everything it could be but im stumped, ive taken some pics so you can see but these only started 3 days ago so will become worse over the next couple of days before they get better again.

Im using cuticle oil morning and night and scensations hand & body cream at least 10 times a day. I have one in my bag and im constantly taking it out and using it but even that aint helping :irked:

Any advice as to what i could try or what it could be would be great if any one can help

I would say its an allergy to something your using because I get exactly the same thing when I use certain cleaning products.

My fingers go like this Pip when I have been a little sloppy with working with my gel brush and get uncured gel on my fingers.

Could there be any over exposure thing there for you too? Is it the same fingers all the time or all of them?

Ive looked into all that lelli, i use the same bleach, cleaner, cloths etc so it cant be any of them.

Only thing i have changed lately is soap powder but even then its only to a brand ive used in the past with no problems. (depends on the offer at macro) lol

I even thought it could be baby wipes but ive used pampers sensative since cj was born and didnt have this problem 10 month ago so dont think its them :irked:

I really am puzzled

Oey i dont realy work any more and im lucky if i do 3 sets a month at moment (not that im complaining, im likeing the break lol)

Ive been the docs but all i got was, use some hand cream :irked:

Ive tried thick handcream with glysterine? even steroid cream i have for the cracked skin i get on my elbows. (its a bit like ezema(sp)) Hope it aint that im getting lol

Ive got really dry fingers at the moment too, just the ones I hold my brush with, they also itch like mad and are sore.I put a thread on here the other day,we put it down to over exposure, I have to learn to work cleaner, this may be your problem too.

My skin keeps cracking too where its so dry, have been putting solar oil on it which works great, but I think I must get myself to the docs to get something to heal it up.And I must look after my fingers in future, whilst doing nails.:)

Does it irritate you at all? Perhaps it might be worth asking your GP to take a look.

Doesnt irritate me or hurt (only on my thumb from time to time)

Its more of a pain in the a$$ as they catch on clothing and cj likes his legs and back stroked when going to sleep but i cant incase it scratches him lol

Do you have your hands in water alot??

Not really, i have a dishwasher so no washing up, if i use detergents for cleaning i 99% of the time wear gloves. I wash my hands after using the loo but thats only a handfull of times a day and then i put creative scensations lotion on.

I think i might just pay the doctor another visit because even though its not painfull its very annoying and something is causing my skin to dry, shed & peel.

Hi pips

I had the same problem as you last month, I nearly peeled all of my skin off my thumb, it is either contact dermatitus(mm dodgy spelling) or its an allergy to something that you are using ie: hand cream, I personally can not use anything with lanolin in so check your hand creams, as it could be an ingrdient in it, I also agree with Debbie as it could be over exposure.

I soaked off my nails in a different acetone and I think it caused me my skin complaint, i got rid of mine by using solar butter/oil.

Also if I wear flocked lined rubber gloves my hands itch and go red, i have to buy sensitive gloves or wear cotton gloves under my normal rubber gloves.

hth :)

I still think it is something to do with your son driving your car,
he has something on his hands from work or messing around with his mates cars and is transferring this onto the steering wheel, then when you drive it is getting onto your hands
plus he sometimes cleans the car for you (bless him) maybe he is wiping some car cleaning chemical on there
just thinking out side the box

Sometimes we can use the same cleaning product for years and then slowly over time we develop a sensitivity to it basically over exposure......i had allways been fine with bleach cleaning products then i developed peeling skin and blisters under my skin on the palms of my hands.......it was the bleach....i had never had a problem with it before...........we can develp allergies to things we have been using problem free for years....then one day we become sensitive to it......

Hi, I seem to have the same problem, dry flaky skin as on the pictures. Has anybody been able to find out what the cause could be?

I am starting to become desperate as it is annoying me.

Thanks

You could try these products called Doublebase a moisturiser and Siopel a barrier from a chemist, Boots have it behind the counter so you have to ask. I suffer from exzema and dermatitis which has been really bad for the last year since learning nails. My doctor is not good at helping as he thinks that nail products are not necessary!! but I have found this product helps for an allergic reaction if that is what it is. It is not good for using when doing nails as you need to have your hands clean but it is good the for other times and housework. xxx

Sorry, just seen you are in South Africa so you may not get these creams there. x

My mum had this problem, she wasnt sure what exactly caused it and tried loads of different creams. I gave her a few samples of dermalogica hand and nail cream and it took it away within a few days. She spends a little bit of extra money now on dermalogica and it keeps it at bay!

I never had dry skin before, but recently I've beeng getting re-occurring dry fingers, that includes peeling and flaking. There are days when it would be all good and then all of a suddent bad. I think it may be your dish soap, try using rubber gloves when washing dishes, and moisturizers don't really help.

i had this problem and it got to the point where it was all over my hands, i found a product called wonderglove which was amazing, it is like an invisible barrier on your hands so you can use it all the time to prevent this from happening, when my hands were peelig i tried everything and eventually resorted to the wonderglove, by the next day my hands were really clearing up and ive never had a problem since :)

Mine look like that, too. For me personally, it's just dry skin. I take a very fine buffer and buff off the dry skin. Then apply solar oil and the CND almond hydrating lotion. When I do this, it is much better. HTH! :)
