I have been dying my hair red for about 4 months but it keeps running out at the ends so im having to do it every two weeks.
I already wash my hair in cold water and use red shampoos.
i use 1 1/2 small bottles of the 9% (30 vol) peroxide mixed with 1 tube of 6.66 and half of magenta red.

does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop it fading?

also is there anything i could use or do to get my hair healthy again or repair it because i dont want it falling out. ive been dying my hair alot over the past 5 years???

and does anyone know how to get my hair a really bright red???

if no-one can think of anything. what colours should i use for a sexy brown???

Thanks

are you a hairdresser? if not, you shouldnt be doing it yourself - there is so much to take into consideration that there could be 100 reasons why its fading.

get it done professionally and you'll see the difference.

9%????????????

ya ya 9%???? well u cant be a hairdresser using a basic mistake like that, no wonder ur hair is wrecked. i see u are trying to use proffessional colours, but they are JUST as bad for the hair as a box dye if ur using and mixing them wrongly. i know you wont takwe my advice but it is. . . PUT THE BOTTLES DOWN and go to a salon. ur hair prob wont hold colour cos u have single handedly wrecked it throo improper use of chemicals!!

i was going to a professional before and they were using the exact same things.
i have been to several salons and everytime my hair has faded at the ends.... aparently it is because i have had blond in my hair in the past.
they were all very good salons but all had the same problem. i dont see why i should pay £100+ for my hair when i know how to mix the colours PROPERLY myself and im saving £80+

Listen - you are obviously not doing it properly are you?!

I'm sorry to get shirty but you don't wanna pay £100+ but you are happy to try to use our expertise on here for free? And not take our advice when we offer it?

Good luck with your hair.

OP, I am not a hairdresser either. I have tried DIY in the past- it doesn't work.
Give your hair, towels and bathroom a break and go to a salon!

Really sorry folks, you're all gonna hate me:sad:

I dye my hair at home just using the Shwartzkoff (can't spell it) Live colours & I got a proper bright red result. I always dye it at home & alot of my nail clients, even the hairdresser ones, are suprised when I tell them its home done. I dunno if I'm just lucky cos our hairdresser at work reckons my hair just takes colour well but I've always been happy with the colour being uniform/fade etc.

Needless to say I am NOT a hairdresser but I'm in the same boat as in can't afford to get hair prof dyed...+ the last time I actually got it done prof I wanted BRIGHT purple streaks in so hairdresser pre-lightened hair then used Rusk (I think) Scream in Purple Blast for 20 mins & after 1st shampoo it all came out leaving me like a brindle dog! So I dyed right over the top with a box colour & viola...its perfect again.

Only prob with condition of hair I had was when I went blue/black simply because it seemed to make my hair limp & flat, rest of the time I've had no probs.

Sorry again to all the profs...REALLY don't mean to offend but just thought I'd let her know I've had good, long-lasting results with at home colourants

Hi hun,
Red is an incredibly hard colour to keep bright and strong in your hair, maybe you have yet to find the right hairdresser, if these salon prices are too high then maybe look into finding a reputable freelance , mobile hairdresser who are often able to offer you a proffessional colour at a lower cost. try to look for one who is recommended by a friend or collegue and have seen their work. There are online directories for freelancers as well so maybe that could help.
As proffesionals there are many different methods that we can use so if you want to stay with tinting your hair and keeping it in optimum condition this will be the way to move forward. In the meantime ensure you are using salon quality products, have some hair treatments to improve your hairs porosity and get a good cut to remove those dry ends that are fading the quickest. x

Why don't you try going to a college OP? Fraction of the cost with all the expertise from the tutors, plus your helping the students with your problematic head of hair!

You are using the majirouge in the wrong way, it is not intended for use as a colour refresher. The colour will simply wash out faster and faster until your ends melt.

I am not gonna tell you how to use a pro product, nor am I gonna tell you what you should be using to sort the problem. I am not gonna argue, just tell you that it is wrong.

Please see a GOOD colourist or college.

Some salons also have apprentices needing models, we have Monday training days, where models can have their hair done at a lower price by one of the girls but they are supervised and assisted until they are competent in carrying out the treatments alone,

Might be worth asking about those too in local salons.
Plus it is sooooo much easier that doing it yourself lol, I put a box dye on the other night first time in over a year I have done my own colour ( except when I had pink bits I topped those up every now and then) and I have to admit, it was a right pain in the bum lol.
I even have colour on the bottoms of my feet !!! No idea how It got there :o

Sorry hair geeks, you are probably cringing, But I am backing you up I promise lol

Really Scotschica :o .... then you should have pmd her
how would you be feeling if we all recommended a box set of nails from boots or Argos .... instead of going to proper trained nail professional like yourself ?....

Hairdressers have to earn a crust too you know !...
