There is so much lack of understanding about UV cured gels.
We all have allot to learn about gels and frankly this is the article to read and maybe more insight will be gained.

It is important that everyone who uses UV cured gels should read this article to honestly comprehend the REAL importance of using the right lamp with the right system.

Written by Doug Schoon who we all know and trust I think it will be well worth everyone's while.

thanks for posting this Gigi i will be reading it with a coffee as soon as my kids are sorted !!!

The more information we know the better !! by the way im doing more training if i hadn't have spoken to you girls on here i wouldn't have considered how important is to be well trained in all systems :)

So a huge thank you :)

Thanks Geeg, will be reading that over a cuppa shortly x

I've just done exactly that - got the kids off and had a read with my coffee..... makes great reading - thanks geeg

It takes a minute or 2 to load up so relax and learn my friends.

I don't use gels yet, but I would like to train for them soon.

He says on there "Don’t be fooled into judging
a UV lamp by the wattage of the UV light
bulbs. For example, some 27 watt UV
lamps have greater UVA intensity than
many 36 watt units.

So if thats the case, do the lamps have what UVA intensity they are written on them?

Yes .. high intensity bulbs do have it written on them but if you get the bulbs for your lamp from the supplier of your gel, then you will have the right bulbs for your gel.

You can put high intensity bulbs in other lamps, but the placement of the bulbs in the lamp as well as the number of bulbs in the lamp is also very important for a full cure.

The page won't come up for me, it keeps saying page cannot be displayed

It is a pdf file so make sure you have the right software to open it.

Thanks for that Gigi.
Fantastic reading.
Just enjoyed it over my coffee and saved it for later reference.

I'm not a gel tech but thought i'd have a read for when i eventually decide i've master one system enough to move onto another!!

I've just recently been using a 36 uv lamp to cure my topcoat gel with L and P application. I did get my lamp off Ebay, and it wasn't very expensive. It looks exactly the same as my tutors lamp, but without the make of it label on it. I am now worried it is not a good one. I don't seem to have had any problems with curing with it so far.

Would it be better if I replaced the bulbs with ones available from my gel supplier Young Nails?

I am worried that I have not got the right lamp now. I can't really afford to buy another one just yet, especially if this one I have seems to be doing the job. Also, why are lamps available widely, other than from the supplier that the gel is supplied?

Because there are so many different suppliers and to be fair, so many gels that come from the same manufacturer but under a different label. Most nail brands do not manufacture their own gels .. it is bought off the shelf. But when you get into the top league like CND where the gels are manufactured by CND with their own unique formulas, then you need the unique lamp that goes with that gel.

Yes, I think it would be good to replace the bulbs in your lamp .. Mr Schoon makes it very clear that the problems that can be caused such as under-curing and ageing are all things YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SEE .. it may seem to be doing the job but it may not be ...that is the whole point of the article.

Okay, I think it would be a good idea for me to order replacement bulbs from the gel supplier, as they supplied by them. Thanks for the information :)

This question comes up so often it is really important that we all GET IT.
