Hi All

Have had a Client asking about Eyelash Lengthening/Enhancement products....

After six months of so she has decided to have a break from having her eyelashes extended and went out and bought something called 'Li Lashes' which you apparently wipe onto the lashes to promote growth and thickness.

The subject of lash coatings which promote growth and thickness is becoming more popular. Do you think this will overtake the need for eyelash extensions and what do you know about these products?

Just wanted a general chit-chat about this and to get your views!

xx:green::green:xx

well i for one would love to know if they work.

We have a few that are popular here in the US, one of which is only available with a prescription from a doctor. They all seem to work (the prescription Latisse seems to work the best and fastest), but I don't think it will replace lash extensions.
A lot of clients here use the products along with their extensions which allows for longer, thicker extensions to be applied to their lashes. We also have people use the products when they have had to have a bad set removed and their lashes are in need of some lash rehab to get back to being healthy again.
They are a great product for you to retail to them as well. It really helps with the lower lashes too, since they don't hold extensions well.

do you apply to lower lashes? On my training we were told never to do this so am very interested to hear how you do this.

Are eyelash extensions big business in the states and what do you charge for a set?

I use Hollywood lashes, is that available where you are?

Would be interested to hear all about you and what you do over there.

Best wishes. xx:green:

Hi Redtulip! Some people do apply to the lower lashes, I do not, mainly because I feel it is too costly for the client. The lower lashes need to be done with the eyes open and a fume free adhesive must be used. The fume free adhesives don't last as long as the fast drying adhesives with fumes.

Hollywood lashes is not available here, but I remember we used to have a Hollywood lashes back when I trained--not sure if it's the same one as you have. I trained with Lavish Lashes--are they in the UK.

I charge $150 (not sure how that translates to pounds) for a set of 60 lashes per eye and then go up from there. I also charge $50 for touch-ups. I am on the low side here in the states. Most people charge $200 and up. They are pretty popular over here, but with the recent decline in the economy it has slipped some. But there are always the lash addicts that just can't go with out. :)

hiya i dont think it will take over lash extensions.. i was reading up on Latisse, and there are many side effects.. darkening of the skin around the lashes.. darkening of the iris due to increased pigmentation.. eye irritations.. red eyes to name but a few!! scary stuff! xx

i have done a bit of research too and found that some of these products came about as a result of a (welcome) side effect to glaucauma medication... so they must be pretty strong and i don't think i'd want that sort of stuff near my eyes!!! xxx:green:

Hi there,
if you have eye lash extensions the last thing you want is increase the lash growth as that would decrease the time the extensions will be on.
The extensions will only last as long as you have your natural lashes and if you increase the regrowth cycle you would lose the lash extensions sooner.

We have tested some growth liquid and it does work but I would never recommend to use it on top of the extension but rather as a complete different approach - natural lashes :O))

Hmmm....I haven't noticed them falling out quicker. Just the opposite for me. I didn't necessarily notice them growing any faster and falling out faster, as I did growing longer and actually staying in longer to get there. But that's just my experience.

It might depend on what the growth liquid is you are using.

Maybe it acts as a sealant, which we generally recommend to put onto the lashes after the extensions are applied.
If the sealant is applied to the lashes regularly to keep the bond intact I cant actually see how the growth liquid could get to the natural lash?

Obviously every products is different .....

Well, the growth serum that I have used (Revitalash) isn't applied to the lashes...it's applied to the skin at the base of the lashes with a very thin brush-kinda like a liquid eyeliner brush. It's not applied to the ends of the lashes at all, so it's definitely not acting like a sealant. It doesn't seem to affect the bond of the adhesive--either negatively or possitively--at all.

Which growth liquid are you using? Is it applied directly on the lashes? I haven't used the Latisse, but I have seen that it is applied with a brush similar to a nail polish brush (way too big, IMO) at the base of the lashes also.

Yes, there are so many different products out there--I love learning as much about them as I can. :)

there will always be people having eyelash extensions because you can also shape contour and add various thickness which the product alone cannot do :D

Eyelash extensions and Eyelash products to me are two different services, attractive to the same customers, at different periods in their life.

I love having eyelash extensions. I get them when I am in a pampering, glamor mood and can keep up with the maintenance.

For me, it is now summer, lots of water time. Too much maintenance for extensions. I have been using, revitalash, with very noticeable results. Especially noticing the bottom. I am blonde and lashes are lighter. So I combine it with getting a lash tint black, and I am back in business with long black lashes... no mascara to worry about when swimming, etc.

I totally agree and wouldnt mix both - extensions and natural enhancements. Both option could suit different clients or even the same client at different times but I would stick with either extensions or enhance the natural lashes.
