Hi all!

Am adding face painting to my list of services for Princess Parties.
I was "roped" into doing it for my daughter's preschool class party at the end of last year and realized I was a quick study and had a knack for it.
BUT
after doing my research on stuff to buy... I realized that what they used at the school was a 'no no'.

I want to get quality face-paints that are hypoallergenic BUT won't break the bank since Princess Parties are NOT my bread-n-butter.

I figure a dozen colours ought to be enough and can always blend colours together.

What was used at the school was Caran D'ache aquacolours crayons which I've since learned are unsuitable for skin (and yet on many forums, people rave about them?)

Sooo.. any good advice to offer here, from those in the know?

Thanks!!

xoxo

I have worked with face and bodypainting for quite a while and won several international comp. in this area sarting from when i was 17.
I have to say that the products from fantasy make-up are really the best out there. and i have tried a LOT!!! they are extreemly gentle to the skin and they wash off really easily while holding very well for hours. I have never encountered an allergic reaction on one of my models. the cremes are very rich in color and their glitters are all cosmetic grade aswell.
I believe they have a distributor in England. i can look for a link.

I've used many products for face and body painting - the majority of products are water-based and in "cake" format and applied using a wet brush, including Grimas, Snazaroo, Kryolan Aquacolor, Mehron Paradise, etc.

The Fantasy Worldwide product that Mieke mentions comes as a creme, and I have found requires a slightly different technique to the water-based cake products - it is more similar to Fardel's creme-based product.

All these products are cosmetic products certified for use on the skin.

You are correct in that it is a very bad idea to use a product that is not certified for use on the skin - especially on the face, and particularly around the eye area! Even if a person were insured to do face and body painting, it is highly likely that the insurance would not cover them to use such a product - which would then mean they would not be covered in the event of legal action should an allergic reaction or other complications occur.

Check out the website, you can contact them for the closest distributor

True, you apply this creme with a dry sponge like you would apply foundation. since it is so creamy it applies easily and it is easy to blend in colors due to the product staying a bit longer moist.

I have added a bit of my work... but it,s no kids type of face painting

wow you are brilliant hun , and theres me being chuffed i did a butterfly on my daughter , lol x

WOW awesome stuff!

Ok, yes, heard of snazaroo in my googling. And the Mehron. But the Kryolan, I was under the impression it was like Caran D'ache and not adviseable?

Thanks so much for giving me a direction to go in. I didn't want to just grab any brand. After all, this is my business and I don't want to hurt any kids poor delicate faces.

Also, any good sites that offer 'tips' free would be great. I'm trying to keep expenses down for this.
I found a few, but any others would be great :green:

I'll be sure to share any pics I take with all of you.:green:

Thanks!
I've only tried it once. And for "this" princess party, I offered it at a very cheap rate of 2$ a child, explaining to the mom that it's only to cover the products and not my time and effort since I'm "trying it out".

My very first crack at it, with ZERO practice or experiments was at my daughter's pre-k party where they just shoved the paint at me and said "you paint nails, you can do this" on kids ranging in ages 3 to 4yrs.

Here are a couple of my "first" tries.. not the greatest, but can only get better right? (keeping in mind, these kids were VERY wriggly critters LOL and I had NEVER done it before, not even on my own kids, nor read up on it at all)

all the boys wanted spiderman ROFL

thanks again for the info!

But the Kryolan, I was under the impression it was like Caran D'ache and not adviseable?

Absolutely not. Kryolan is a highly respected German manufacturer of professional make-up products and its Aquacolor range is used extensively by face painters worldwide.

The only exception where you should not use Aquacolor on the face is in the case of the UV colours, which are clearly marked "for hair and special effects only".

V those are really good!
Caran D'ache...OMG I used a lot of these at art college....never thought people would apply to skin though:eek:
Rachel once had her face painted and got a red itchy rash so now I'm "bad mum" because unless I know they are using decent products with hypoallergenic qualities and they have a certain standard of hygiene (clean sponges etc. at least!) I won't let her have it done.
It goes down like a lead balloon at parties and on holiday I have to say.

Well done Judy, if everyone else was as careful as you, then dodgy face painters wouldn't have any customers in the first place!

Thanks everyone for the help and support.
Off to do online shopping LOL
