Hi

I am practicing the dreaded French manicure. I am using Orly's french manicure set which uses Pink Nude. As soon as i apply the pink, i think it makes the nail look rubbish.

I personally like the look of just the white tip, do you think you could do this on a client, or should you always use the pink colour. I think it comes down to the clients choice, but wasn't sure whether it would seem unprofessional to not use the pink.

What do you think?

Thanks

Yes I agree that some clients will ask you for this, so I apply a base coat (cnd stickey) and then do my whites and then apply my top coat. (super shiney)

It lasts just as long in my opinion

I assume you mean with polish and not with acrylic?
If so, why not do the pink first then apply the white as there is no rule that states you must apply white then pink. persoanlly i like to apply the white first as I think the pink then gives the white a softer look and sort of evens out the white's edge if it is a little wonky.

Why does it look rubbish? Is it drowning out the white? x

Yeah it does seem to. I have tried other shades of pink and they seem to all look cloudy.

You may be applying too thickly or putting on more than one coat? You can always try two coats of white

The pink will always take down the brightness of the white a little, but that is the idea, it softens it. Remember the pink should be very thin.

If you dont like that effect change up the routine so you miss the pink or apply the white on top of it. It all depends on the look the client is trying to achieve.

Sometimes playing with different brands of pink / nude colours means you can find a look that you like.

My 'french' is a tad different. I do a base of CND's Stickey, a coat of Essie's Cherry Pop, Essie's Marshmallow for the tip and then a coat of CND's Air Dry. It looks FAB and very natural. HTH and best of luck!

I find alot of the creamy pink colours go a bit streaky and lumpy. I've finally found the answer (for me personally anyway) and it's OPI's "Passion". Ultra smooth. I always do my white over the pink, i like that crisp look, I read once that the technique is called a californian manicure? the French manicure is classically white "under" pink.

Hi there,

I felt exactly the same way when I did my Man/Ped course and hated the Orly French Manicure Polish.

I only use Elegant Touch French Manicure Set which is about £3.49 from BodyCare Shop. I think it is fantastic and the amount of compliments I get about my French when I use this is unbelievable.

The way I do my french is ............. I DON'T put a clear on the bottom, but I put two layers of the pink, then the white tip and then top with clear coat.

Hope this helps.

xx
