Hi everyone, i'm having a bit of trouble with a client who has Brisa gel. i'm so gutted as she came to me from another salon who she didn't think was very good and now her nails keep breaking!
I did her a full set of gel about 2 weeks ago, the she rang me last wednesday to say 3 had broken. when i saw her one had completley come off and she said she trapped it in a door, the other 2 had the gel still stuck to the nail plate but the tip had broken off.
then shes rangme this moring to say shes broken 4 now! i said has everything come off or just the tip and she said it was just the tip that had come off.
I just don't no what to suggest, she doesn't have them very long so i dont think it can be the length. any advice on what i should do?

do u think i should get her to change to acrylic?

Have you had training in Brisa and are you using a Brisa lamp ?

From what you have said it sounds as though the structure of the nails is incorrect. It may be that you are just making them too thin or not building the apex enough. Both of these are common faults when you first start using gel.

I agree with Adele as well, we all fall into doing the nails a little too thin at first, till you get used to using the product.

Also, if she had loads of problems with her previous tech, it could be that her nails were very damaged, or that she is very hard on her nails??

It is hard to say, but i hope one of these helps?

I agree....so many people when new to gel think you just paint it on like enamel.....think beads...like you do L&P...Build the strength and shape.

thanks 4 your replies, yea i've had my brisa training and use correct lamp and i've been doing Brisa gel for about 2 years and never had this problem. I don't no whats happened to them i'll have to have a good look at them tomorrow!

Thanks 4 your advice

perhaps if you talk us through your application proceedure we may be able to see if there is any way we could offer any further advice.

So she is the only client with problems?

I'd probably offer to re do the set and if your STILL getting loads of problems switch her over to l&p maybe - maybe gel is not for her !

thats what i thought, in the salon i used to work in i had a lady who couldn't keep gel nails on so we switched to L+P and she had no probs..wierd! I no when i saw her before she had banged one in her car door so i think she must be quite heavy handed. Do you think an extra layer of builder gel would give more strength?
I normally prep as usual, thin layer of clear base gel + cure, layer of pink builder gel + cure, file, brush on white then top gel.
would it make any difference strength wise putting a 2nd layer of pink gel or would it just make them look thick?

its not so much an extra LAYER its the whole structure of the nail.

I tend to bond, scrub in a thin layer, then build each nail at a time and lock cure (i work from 2 lamps) you need strenght in the apex along the sidewalls etc just like with l+p tapering nice and thin (but not TOO thin) on the free edge, cuticle and sides.

If your building in the right areas and refining the nail after it shouldnt look too thick.

If your thinking ...maybe i did them a bit too thin..thats probably your problem.

I tend to sculpt too rather than tip which has helped me on the breakage front i find sculpts a lot stronger!

If your comfortable with l+p and think she is going to be a nightmare.....swap her over !

just thought i'd do an update!
Well the gel was left on the nail plate it was just from the tip that had broken off... i made sure i put more gel on than usual i think i was maybe doing them a bit thin. Also she was asking if it was maybe the nail glue that isn't strong enough. At the moment i'm just using a liquid glue from the Edge.
Do you think using a thicker glue like Gelbond would make any difference? It just seems funny that it's only the tips that are breaking off.
Any ideas?

I have had a couple of clients who just ruined their Brisa nails. One of them is now using L&P and has no problem, the other just dropped the whole idea of having enhancements, she just couldn't have them. They were a total disaster after a week - with breaking, cracks, lifting, you name it. I tried to make a new set for her, but the result was the same...

When reading your "how-to" I got to think of another problem I have come across. When doing NNO's with all clear or pink, it seems that they break easier than when I sculpt a white tip. Maybe it is just because it's easier to build strength when using white - I don't know. Just a thought.

Good luck...

I think it's more a case of us building a thicker apex when using white, I've done it myself when sculpting with clear or pink, I tend not to build the nail thick enough at the apex, especially when doing my own nails.

I think Jenna has the same problem, more product in zone 2 :green:
