Hi, My BT is going on Shellac training on I think the 5th of May, but we have had a few requests already about gel overlay.

I don't know whether I should order in some gel just now, or just wait for Shellac...why would someone prefer gel to shellac?

To me, I don't see any benefit in using gel instead of Shellac...but I'm not a nail tech, I just know what I see on here.

Any advice would be great, thanks. X

The main benefit of traditional gel over Shellac is the ability extend the nail with gel. Shellac will really only be suitable for use over the existng length of a natural nail, or over a nail enhanced a different way.

I can't wait for Shellac, but it won't be replacing my gel treatments, it will be enhancing (and hopefully increasing) my manicure services.

ok ok, we do gel extensions already, but just dont have any coloured gel (sorry i dont explain myself very well) and have had 2 ladies asking about coloured gel over natural nail.

Hi Kim!
I have loooked into the shellac and think it sounds a good idea. I think it will be so much better for the natural nails, and very effective. I havent done the gel colour overlays as my old boss always said it was more hassle mixing the colours up and harder to put on. but i dont know as she never let me try it!
But think the shellac will be very popular xx

I was thinking sooner or later we'd find each other on here. :D I'm excited about it, and I don't even do nails!!!

Aha......I see what you mean now!

Well then I'd probably wait for Shellac....as if you have gel already, by adding another gel, coloured or not, you would be really adding something that is only slightly different to what you already do.

Shellac does seem as though it offers something to a whole new set of cleints, as well as giving you the more permanent colour you are getting asked for.

Lots of luck x

Thanks Lyndsay - love your profile pic x

lol i was only passing by.....wass thinking i will look on salon geek see what people are saying about shellac then i found you lol.
You are on the computer late its past my bed time lol xxx

watching despo housewives on ch4+1 :D

stay up late for special occasions!!!

Hi Kim, I do Calgel which has lots of coloured gel, to buy in a coloured gel just for two people could be quite expensive, I would wait for Shellac. Is your BT doing the training at Fingertips in Edinburgh as I have mine on the 5th May can't wait

Annie

my BT is Gayles_Beauty... :D yeh its on the Wednesday course, in the afternoon, at Fingertips. Wish I was going, I love all this nails stuff!!!

Hi Kimi,
I, too, am eagerly awaiting Shellac.
I think that Shellac will do everything you want i.e. long-lasting natural nail enamel and long-lasting enhancement enamel.
To buy coloured gel only for the colour value is going to cost you more, and for the client, the colour won't be so easily changed.
That's only my opinion though.
It's only a couple of weeks to wait.................seems like forever, eh?

Kim, shellac is going to be huge and it's going to bring lots of new clients to the salon. It does that already to me. Coloured gels is a bit of different product. So if there is a demand for colours I would get couple of best selling colours in and build up the collection slowly. Clients who tend to come back always excited about what shall they have next. I love IBD coloured gels and can't keep up with them bringing out new collections. But mostly inuse Creative Brisa Bolds gel collection cause I can mix a cdesired colour specifically to suit clients wishes and they feel very special while they get to see the mixing part. Brisa rocks for me.

If you have any questions feel free to email any time)

Hope this helps xo

I'm going on Wednesday afternoon too. So excited and absolutely can't wait.

Thanks Nataliya. I am getting the starter kit, which I think is 6 or 12 colours with it? I can't remember how many but I know I worked out how many sets of nails could be done for the cost and it was v reasonable.

I used to get Bio gels done, and just get soaked off every 2weeks, but it seems other gels arent't similar to this...

We shall wait for Shellac.....although I don't know if I can wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
