Have any of you been to the Ubiquitous Chip in Aston Lane?

It's our first wedding anniversary in 3 weeks. We can't decide between

a) Stay in a nice hotel somewhere and have a nice meal

or

b) Go out for a really nice meal and spoil ourselves with a bottle of bubbly and somewhere for cocktails after. Love cocktails :green:

Ubiquitous Chip being for option b.

If you can recommend any other nice restaurants in Glasgow or nice hotels in or around Glasgow with good food but not too expensive to stay and eat, fire them this way. :)

my husband says it depends on what type of food you like:lol:?

I've been to the Ubiquitous Chip a few times and the fact is it's one of the most atmospheric restaurants in Glasgow. Only thing is that each time I've been although I've thoroughly enjoyed the "experience", I've always been slightly disappointed by the food - and always a little shocked by the bill! The quality of the food doesn't quite match up to the expectations...

One place I can certainly recommend is The Buttery. Recently reopened by the team behind "Two Fat Ladies" in the West End, it ticks all the boxes - food, atmosphere and service. We've taken lots of friends and work colleagues along (whenever anyone visits us this is where we go!). The pudding platter (to share) is AMAZING!!! Link below...

We like good tasty food. Probably a "tarditional Scottish". Fish, meat, not too heavily sauced. You know the kind.

I'm coming to Glasgow in a few weeks,
i might come and visit you if you take visitors there lol

Pudding platter sounds good but doubt I'd be sharing. Thanks for that link. We were thinking about two fat ladies too.

What about One Devonshire Gardens. They do dinner, bed & breakfast £225. Quite pricy I know but if we were to go somewhere for dinner, get a bottle of bubbly, go somewhere for nice cocktails after, might not be that far off it.

One Devonshire is simply stunning - you wouldn't be disappointed in regards to the rooms, atmosphere etc. We stayed there on our wedding night and we were really impressed. Can't comment on the food though as we had dinner at our reception venue - and we missed breakfast too.....late night!

We had our wedding reception at Oran Mor (top of Byers Road). I'd recommend this place for a few drinks as it's just along the road from One Devonshire......

Cheers
