Hi girlies and boyies!

I hope you (some) remeber my hairmare with getting my extensions out..

Well.. i was told by lots of people to use acetone.. This seems to not have worked or worked badly..

As i have no experience with hair extensions or hair extension removal i have no idea how easy or hard it should be to remove them..

So my poor boyfriend sat down with me yesterday and went through my hair one by one for 3 hours.. he managed to remove roughly 4 extensions!!!

Bless him i told him a million times... acetone, crush then repeat!

The problem is all the bonds turned very gooey and just got more sticky... the hair and big lump of extension is out but the glue basically is still there..

As you can imagine my hair is a bit of a mess! And im selling acetone cheap!!!

Yes... so can anyone suggest what i do next? And yes i know i SHOULD go see a professional but i cant but i promise if plan B goes this wrong then i proimse ill go see a professional after pay day!

Im sorry geek's for always posting.. im like a broken record!

Hugs to you all lovely people

Also.. i look like i have REALLY bad dundruff from all the glue.. will this wash out??

Oh god girls.. if you saw my hair you would FREAK OUT

OMG! Borrow the money from someone and go see a professional.

Acetone should have removed them, all I do with mine is hold a soaked cotton wool pad on the bond and then remove it.....

Cant understand why yours wont shift.....I would go back to the person who put them in and get some help x

Oh my this doesnt sound good at all.
I dont think it was a normal glue either, had something similar happen with my hair years ago i think it was a cheap glue stick the girl used in my hair.
might be a case of lashing a mineral oil into your hair and leaving it to soak, crush bonds again using a pliers then using a finely toothed comb to try comb them out. Be very careful not to pull through too much or you will be tearing your own hair with them.

I really hope this helps, you must be driven mad at this stage.

Dont let it totally put you off extensions as they're usually fairly easy to remove without damage to your own hair.

Good luck xx

you need to go see a professional! Or prepare to end up having to shave your head and start again.

I did say before that acetone on it's own will not remove bonds. Whether they are glue or keratin. The products that remove bonds are not solely made up of acetone. I teach hair ext. application and have to also study other products on the market. None of them advocate the removal with pure acetone.

If your are certain that you are not going to seek professional removal, then contact the company whose product is in your hair and seek their advice.

Please don't take advice of non-professionals. Just because they have had a product on their hair does not make them qualified to give advice.

Good luck :)

The best advice agreed !

However the poster had previoulsy advised that she was trying to do it herself.

I was merely telling her how I get mine out, not suggesting for one minute that this is the professional way.

You can purchase a removal gun with a solution containing acetone & oil, these work well also.

Good luck x

For some reason I keep ruffling feathers advocating the need for professional help in this situation. I am just wondering how the nail geeks would feel if I was to suggest buying a enhancement application set from Argos in place of a professional. I mean I know someone, who knows someone who said they are just fine.

Except at the very worst damaged, nails you can hide and take around 10 weeks to recover. Hair can take a year plus to recover from bad ext. application and removal. Only a hat hides a bald head.

Im in full agreement with you & completely understand your frustration.....& yes you are right about the hair & nails.....although recovery for nails can sometimes take a lot longer than 10 weeks.

The best advice is always consult a professional, thats why we are trained.

It is very frustrating when people think they can DIY, but it will never stop, regardless of damage caused and a few of us have tried these things, we learn lessons lol

But if people for whatever reason wont/cant get professional help and require advice/experience (professional or personal) then I will always reply to a thread.

I havent replied as a professional, I have replied with personal experience only x

Basically it was one hair extension effort which wen awry, got messed up and had lot of side effects it looks like, all the best with getting your dandruff away

Im sorry to cause a rift.. that was NOT my intention at all..

I had them put in at a teaching school

London Hair Academy

The teacher was present and doing some of the extensions.. the girl seemed quite confident.. it seemed above board..

Im going to ring them tomorrow and speak to someone about all this mess!

If not im going to try cotton wool soaked in acetone n leave it on my hair for 5 mins..

Once i am totally satisfied that will not work then i will be searching the yellow pages for a professional!

Do you think the place i went too is dodgy????

:irked:

And I agree - however I am a professional - educator and been a practionioner for several years! The type of extensions this young lady had - SHOULD be coming out with Acetone! no offence to the lady who does Balmain but her system is very, very different.... I work with several methods and brands - and each one is applied/removed differently. The young lady involved, also contacted the training school who put them in - and they also said they should come out the same way! If they aren't comign out - after testing 1 - then she should contact them immediately! No one suggested a full removal... :)

You assume I have only used Balmain? I have not and explained this is my last post. I also have worked with different methods and brands and across the board have been told by various companies that acetone is NOT the key ingredient is removal products. It is one of the ingredients. I also have a strong science background and basic chemistry tells us that certain ingredients work fully when there are other catalysts present to activate the full potential of another ingredient, i.e acetone. This is why this poor girl is getting more and more frustrated at not being able to remove the extensions as the acetone relies on these other ingredients to work.

We all know how clients work, we tell them to try one but they always push it further. :)

Personal experience is great but should never be used in place of professional experience. Opinion is not a replacement for fact.

I thought this was a forum for professionals to brainstorm, ask for advice of their peers and to generally come together.

This (hair) forum should never replace face to face advice for these sort of problems, which is what this young lady needs. :)

Hi, I think the poster has received a lot of good professional advice on here and in private messages because the poster was so upset
so it's perhaps a bit more so than usual ,
also we shouldn't forget the salon geeks rules

the main problem is that they were not maintained

so they have now matted because of lack of maintenance

To an extent recommending any DIY hair job in the open salon geek forum to a non professional isn't really fair to any hair extensionists who have trained up and spent hundreds of pounds on their professional training and insurance ect....
all hair extensions are very expensive to keep maintained and removal is a pretty expensive and specialist job too

plus I don't think its fair to shift any blame on the trainee extensionist if the maintenance wasn't done ,as you knew she was training plus she is not on here to back herself up

maybe you could try another training college they are usually happy to help out at a much cheaper price good luck  minky x
