Hi all.
I am sitting very nervously awaiting my dental appointment. I have cancelled this appointment 3 times already because I am so scared.

I have phoned them this morning to make yet another excuse. I said I have a really bad chest infection and cough (true) , and that I was afraid of coughing whilst lying flat (true)!!!. They said well come for your appointment anyway and chat with the dentist and she will decide whether to do the treatment today. YIKES!!!!

I am soooo nervous I feel physically sick. I hate the dentist. I am perrtified of the injection. I have got to have a root filling and a crown.

My appointment is 10.20 and I have got to leave the bloody house at 10.00.
I would have thought by now I would have got over my fear but its worse than ever.

Sorry to go on but I am so frightened its stupid.

Thanx for listening geeks .

Elaine - the best thing I can say is just get it over and done with!

As you may know I had a root filling last week and was absolutely petrified, I had postponed it once but I am so glad that I went ahead last week as things have been so much better since!

Good luck - hope all goes well!

i hate dentists too - i was once sick over mine, i had a bad cold and told the hygenist (when she was descaling) i could hardly breathe she said, she'd be quick - all that stuff nad squirty water in my mouth and bblluuueeeeggghhhhh i couldnt help it! Not been to hygeniest since! xx

I'll be thinking of u cos i know how bad i get before a dentist trip!! xx

I've yet to meet anyone who can honestly say they enjoy a visit to the dentist, so you don't need to feel as if you're on your own with this one!

The longer you put it off, the more pain you will be in ... as hard as it is, you need to get it over and done with ... sending you   to wish you luck.

ask them for more drugs!!!!!

My husband is the same as you. He broke a tooth and didn't tell me cos he knew that i would make him go to the dentist. He ended up having a week of hell with toothache, no sleep, no food, lived on pills and when he finally got to the dentist he had to have the tooth out.

He was pleasantly suprised that it was sooo quick and painless. He feels a little silly now for making such a fuss.

I don't like the dentist but I go if I have to have my check ups and if there are problems. I have the worst teeth ever, no matter what I do I always end up having fillings, take after my father. I have had a couple of root canals and they are not as bad as you think.

Go and get it over and done with, you will feel much better. There is nothing worse than being forced to go with toothache and you really dont want to have teeth pulled out if you leave it any longer.

Be a brave girl

Rachel

VALIUM would have been better:)

I have noted that you use Valium for a wide range of situations, much as I use Gin - does it leave a hangover ??

god i would love a dentist today.

i have woken up with a massive and i mean massive abcess on my gum!!
the side of my face has swollen also.

can you believe i pay for dental treatment and still have to wait for a dentist to ring back this afternoon to see if they have a free slot:irked:
x

I tell you what - lets find a geeky dentist and we could save a fortune!

With all us geeks at the minute that need dental treatment - somebody is making a killing on us all!

I hadnt been to the dentist in a while, so when I came to book back in I had to go to a different practice and the dentist is so nasty.

I know their is no point in sugar coating things if you have a problem, but he was horrible about the way he did it.

I dont want to go back, but none of the other dentists are taking on in my area at the moment.

The way things are going at the moment my eldest daughter has her dentist over the road from us lovely lady, I'm somewhere else and I think my youngest when it's time for her to go could end up in a totally different practice as well!

i do think the dental practise in genral needs looking at in this country...most dentists have gone private and will not take nhs patients paying or not.

there just isnt enough nhs dentists around.

i do think that the dentist should try to get the whole family in at the same surgery if you so wish. x

I am back from the dentist.
It was vile.

I feel like I have had a stroke. Numb tongue, chin ,lips.
I was shaking from head to toe.

I have got to go back next week for the rest of the treatment. Today I had the dreaded injections , and I thought she ws never going to remove it from my mouth!!
Then I had an x-ray.
Then she took an impression. It was really awful - It was like a great big lump of play dough wedged in my mouth. Just had to breath through my nose until it set. I began to panick and the dentist as saying calm down and breath through your nose. Anyway what a relief when she took it out.
Then came the drill OMG I nearly jumped through the window!!! I could feel it. Then She gave me more injections. The rest is a blank. I just closed my eyes and looped my fingers through my trousers where the belt goes!! (good anchor point)!!
Anyway its over now till next week.

Thanx for the support. I am dying for a cuppa but I think I had best wait a while eh!!

     xx

Well done hun!

At least the hard bit is over and done with now!

Once the numbness has gone you should start to feel alot better - I did!

i used to be REALLY scared, i'm the girl who, when i was ten, sat on the stairs in the dentist, wrapped my arms and legs through the bannister and screamed and held on while 4 people prized me off. i fought all the way to the chair (you'd think i was getting the death penalty!). i didn't go for 8 years when i left school, and then a friend recommended me to one that specialised in nervous patients because i had broken a tooth. i've never looked back. all those years of being scared and now i have a lovely dentist. my best advice to anyone who is scared is... tell your dentist and if they are not sympathetic to your phobia then move dentists. if you're worried about being landed with a hefty bill because you might have to go private there are dental plans you can join for a few quid a month.

my dentist even puts a gel on my gum to numb it before he gives me an injection, and he's totally honest with me with everything he's going to do. he talks to me first and i've even managed to have a replacement filling WITHOUT an injection, because he was totally honest and said the injection would hurt more than the filling, and he was right.

now i go for a check up everything six months with a smile on my face, which is a far cry from the first time i went for a checkup with tears streaming down my face.

Ooo.. this has just reminded me that my son, daughter and I all have an appointment with a new dentist in the morning. Gulp! I am a chicken too when it comes to that dental chair! :(

well i finally got in the dentist. not until the 15th march!!

he did leave me a script for antibiotics to clear the abcess away tho.

be thankful for small mercys eh..lol xx
