Ok I need some opinions on naming my business!
I am a wedding photographer, and after 6 years I'm starting my own business. I do weddings, families, and children. I am based out of Phoenix Arizona. First of all, obviously my first choice would have been "Sarah Walker Photography" but there is no way I can use my name (sarah walker) as my business name because every variation of my name is taken for web domains. A web domain is HARD to find! Everything is taken!!
Anyway after hours of searching for available domain names, (which is basically the most important aspect of building my business) I've come up with the following names.
Tell me which one you all like!

1. White Strobe Photography
2. Park Slope Photography
3. Sunset Canyon Photography
4. Desert Glow Photography
5. Rhapsody Photography
6. Solar Flare Photography

Help!!!

Hi Sarah,

I really like number 3 SUNSET CANYON!!

I like numbers 3...4...and 6....

I cannot actually be more specific than that as I like them equally....:)

Good luck with your business and naming xxxxxxxx

I like number 3.....best of luck with your business.....let us know which name you pick !!

There all really good names! but i liked White Strobe Photography the best:)

fenixfotography (and it's not taken)

fenixfotography (and it's not taken)

Don't you mean PHOENIXPhotography nailzooas in Phoenix Arizona>?

but i do like numbers 1 and 3

If you are wanting lots of traffic to your website, you are best off calling it something like 'PHOENIX Photography' as already suggested.

Your actual trading/business name could be something entirely different eg your business name could be Sarah Walker Photography with your web address phoenix photography.

The reason for that is that the majority of potential clients looking for a photographer in Pheonix, won't know who you are, they are just looking for a photographer in Phoenix.

There's no reason why you can't register more than 1 web domain, and have then pointing to your main web address.

I've just have a quick search & sarah-walker-photography.com is available, phoenix-photography.com isn't.

Perhaps your particular area of Phoenix could be used within the domain name?

Yes, phoenixphotography.com, arizonaphotography.com, phoenixphoto, arizonaphoto, and every variation of the above are taken. This is a challenging process.
But yes, one of those names would have been a gold mine because most people do search under the place where they live, which would bring up my name first.
I do want to stay away from weird funky spellings because no one would ever remember it, or saying it on the phone would involve spelling it out every time.
HOWEVER...I recently discovered that my name,
sarahwalkerphoto.com is available. So I suppose my business name could be "Sarah Walker Photography" with sarahwalkerphoto.com as my web address...but...is that kinda lame?

Would all of you be more attracted to a person's name or something like the above?

Oh yeah I posted a poll in one of my local forums which is mainly men.
Overwhelmingly 50% of voters chose "Desert Glow Photography" with the rest mostly choosing "sunset canyon". No one chose "rhapsody" or "white strobe yet.
So far about 30 voters.
I am glad I did this! It is really interesting to see what people think!

I like Sunset Canyon Photography, because I think that would make me look, rather than your name, it sounds different, but that is just my opinion, it is entirely up to you.

Just to add I went to Arizona a few years back and visited the Grand Canyon and I felt, even though I knew I was standing there looking at at it, it just looked like a photograph if you know what I mean, absolutely stunning, perhaps that has influenced my choice. :)

Yes, this is red rock canyon country. I also went to england once! I was a teen and flew over to london by myself. I am a crazy girl! I'll never forget getting off the plane, going to meet the person I had arranged to stay with. I went to get in the car, and was standing on the driver's side! (forgot that the sides are switched.) He said "Whats this? Do you plan to drive?" We both laughed. The entire time I felt stange being on the driver's side with no steering wheel!!
I stayed a week and had the time of my life. Oh my goodness, england and arizona are soooo different. Everything there seems minature...tiny streets, tiny bottles of milk, tiny grocery stores, tiny refridgerators! Oh and yes the tiny cars. It was so overwhelmingly green too! It was beautiful to my eyes, which are accostomed to the desert, palm trees, and rocky landscapes. Around here it truly is wide open spaces and most roads are 6 lanes wide and perfectly straight! You guys have tiny, curvy roads everywhere...what a crazy way to get around!
Anyway back to my photography name...any other suggestions? The guys on the other forum are overwhelmingly voting for "desert glow".

Hello again Sarah,

Have you tried the different variants with a hyphen - between the words?

Occasionally you find what you're looking for that way.

Don't you mean PHOENIXPhotography nailzooas in Phoenix Arizona>?

but i do like numbers 1 and 3

nope, I meant fenix, because pheonix is already taken.

Your website SEO will be far more successful if you use the city you live in or the county or a city near you as a part of your website. You can also use your name since many websites have other site names "pointing to them". For example, my main site is Temecula Lipstick but I also have LipstickToTheStars which just points to my main site and if anyone types it in, they'll still land on the same site. So, I say use some town near you AND pay for the one with your name in it and use both, choosing one main one. I love GoDaddy.com - there are no reps that are outsourced and they operate with help 24/7. They have a zillion templates to chose from and are very, very inexpensive.

Remember that potential clients will be searching using phrases like, "photographer in phoenix". If your website name already has Phoenix as a part of it's name, voila! You've hit paydirt and will likely show up high in hits.
hugs, kelly

what about reversing the order of what you do and the location?
IE photopheonix www.photopheonix.com , thats available .......\

imagine a Pheonix (the bird) rising from the ashes with it's watchful eye, taking pictures ?

Ah Nailzoo's words>>>imagine a Pheonix (the bird) rising from the ashes with it's watchful eye, taking pictures ? got me thinking

How about PhoenixPortraiture .....the Eye(yourself\camera lens) to capture the personality ,appearance and character of the individual.
