Hi, I'm only a nail geek and just wanted some advice from any waxers out there!! I decided to take the plunge and have a hollywood. After reading various threads on here i rang a few places to find out where used hot wax as it seemed better for hollywood's. Booked my appointment and off I went. When i got there i mentioned about the hot wax and she said i normally use half and half so i thought ok she prob knows what she's doing. Now as I said i haven't done waxing but I thought you normally got talc or oil on prior to the wax but she didn't do this and used the normal wax for the whole lot. She never pulled my skin taught either so was a tad painful!!!
Now i know its not going to be painfree but would it have been less painful had she pulled my skin tight and used hot wax?

Sorry if i've rambled on a bit but would like to get it done again but not sure whether to go back there or not.

Thanks for listening!! x

Hiya,

I havent really got onto waxing properly on my course (just seen the demo and had some theory), but I have had a hollywood a fair few times.

The talc is basically used to soak up any excess sebum so the wax will stick to your hairs more. She shouldve atleast put some pre wax on the area to make sure its clean (not saying that you are dirty).

When waxing down there I know it is very important to put the skin taught (you should even do this on the legs). Im surprised you actually were ok to do the whole thing! Its painful normally but without 'stretching' skin.... She really couldve damaged your skin!

Im dont know about hot wax so I cant comment but you should talk to the manger at the shop. Personally, as I client and not a therapist, I wouldn't go back unless someone else did the treatment and I knew that they had the qualification for it. JMO :)

when i do bikini line i make my client involed so i know i wont hurt them, making sure they hold the skin taught!!!

Ahhh i never had a hollywood i be scared lol!! Even thou ii wanna do the course as i love waxing!!!!

Thanks, and another thing I forgot to mention, she didn't even fill in a consultation form!! She is the only one in Salon who does hollywood's.

It seems very typical these days no consultation form, no patch test etc. Hollywood is a very intimate procedure and the therapist should be so professional. sometimes my girl uses strips but she's like lightening so I dont mind.
Overall what do you think, would you go back?

Well I would definitely like to have it done again but think i will go elsewhere, but its hard to know who's going to be good and who's not!!! Also she said at the end i have left a little bit cos its looking a bit red!!! So she didn't even finish the whole lot off!!

A lot of salons (most) use strip wax for Hollywoods and as long as they are skilled at what they do, that's fine. However, if she told you that she uses hot wax, why didn't she?

I only ever use non strip wax on Intimate waxing but I would tidy up the fine hair on the top of the legs with strip wax.

The most important thing is not how quick you are but how your clients feels during and after. Intimate waxing for the first time hurts.....don't let anyone kid you that it doesn't. However, if you get someone that really knows what they are doing and that combined with non strip wax, it is much less painful and that's a fact. If you have it done regularly, it'll be a walk in the park.

This has been said to me countless amounts of times by both my male and female clients. They report that when they're waxed with strip wax, they are tender and sore for a couple of days, where as when they are waxed with non strip wax, they don't get that at all.

If you are going to have it done with strip wax again, make sure it's someone who stretches the skin and applies oil before waxing as this is much gentler. Try it with non strip wax and report back to us how you found it between the two waxes. xxx

Hi hun, i am not sure how far you are away from me, but if you are down my way i am more than happy to give you a hollywood. I had a good trainer our kimmi :)xxxx

Ps pm me if you want hun, or i am sure kim will probably be able to point you in the right direction there may even be some one closer that has trained with her. Good luck for next time, try not to let it put you off. My first hollywood was done with kim and i had been bruised and battered in the past and i tell you i could have done the ironing and read a mag, xxx

Thanks for all your replies, I'm gonna ring round some more salons and see if I can find another one and will insist on the hot wax if they use it!!
