Hiya all

I have a 56" rear projection TV that I would like to get rid off as its too big for my living room. The TV does need servicing as there is a red shadow on the picture, and I have been told that the parts would cost about £50. I had decided to have it collected as waste, but then someone told me that I could give it away to a charity that collects such things, repairs them and then gives them on to people in need. Well I have just spent an hour trying to google such charity shops but with no luck. All of them are saying that they do not accept TVs bigger than 21". Does anyone know of an organisation or a charity shop that provides such a service in the Hertfordshire area. I'd rather that someone else benefited from the TV than it ending up in a landfill site somewhere.

Thanks

Try Centrepoint Outreach

These are a company in my area that helps the homeless

Or dontdumpthat.co.uk

Not a charity but you could Freecycle it, it's better to give it away than make it landfill.

Have you tried your local youth club or community centre? they may be interested.

As its not allowed for any buying/selling on the site can we please stick to answers only of organisations or charity's.

Freecycle would get my vote too; you could even state that you would prefer it to go to a charity or community group if and when you put the ad on your local Freecycle group...

At least Freecycle avoids the Health and Schmafety red tape concerning the sale of used electrical goods...

There is a place called Emmaus in Carlton, Bedford and they accept donations that they can sell on, but you would have to ring them to ask them if they would accept the T.V as the website says it must be in working order.
I googled Emmaus Bedford and their site came up.

I don't know if they are anywhere near you but there is a company in Waltham abbey called the Lighthouse Furniture Project and they give stuff to people in need. Sorry if my geography is off! Their website is www.lighthousefurniture.org

If they are not in your area then maybe they could recommend someone?

Not a website or charity but just a thought - how about your local hospital..?

I once saw a TV at my hospital with 'donated by xxxx' written on it. They put it in the TV room of one of the children's ward. It really helped to entertain the sick children.

Edit: Just realised you're in Hertfordshire. The hospital where the saw the donated TV was Barnet hospital which is fairly close to you. Maybe give them a ring..?

WOW... Thank you all for your answers, they are much appreciated. I shall definitely try all of your suggestions, and hopefully someone will say yes.

Thanks again to everyone :)
