hi there

ive been reading up on efile threads and have now decided to do p&w even though i dont have an efile. Having read the tutorial i feel i can now go ahead and offer the p&w with just hand filing.

My question is, without an efile, how do you get rid of the dirt, ridges and general stuff that clients get under their nail enhancements? my nail tech used a cone shaped bit and it cleaned under the nails really well...

any info would be greatly appreciated as i cant yet afford an efile...

hopefully

I haven't used them, but maybe sanding sticks are an option? I hope someone else has better advice for you ;)

i use sanding sticks

Exactly, what I was thinking, sanding sticks are what I would use.

The secret is not to get any product under the nail in the first place :green:

If you have sculpted the underside should be nice and smooth anyway. If you've tipped and there's any of the fluffy stuff thats left from filing the tips I get it out with one of the little mani brushes (like the ones for babys hair!) I hate digging under peoples nails as I know how much it can hurt xx

I find that if I don't have enhancements on, I get an awful lot of dirt etc under my nails. As soon as I have them on it stops! I don't get anything under them. As strange as it sounds!

But if I do, or a client does, I recommend a good old scrubbing with toothpaste!

Orange wood stick I even give them out to my clients with a manicure brush on there first visit and explain to them what to do with them and even show them in some cases what i like to call "the hospital scrub." They always thank me for these little treats

Correct me if I'm wrong here, which I'm sure someone will....surely electric drilling/filing under the enhancement will damage the natural nail growing out underneath:eek:.

I've heard some horror stories about the NSS doing this kind of stuff - in fact my ex-sister-in-law goes to the local NSS here and they do that - remove the natural nail, that has started curling away from the acrylic (MMA most likely) with a electric file!!!!!
It beggars belief in my opinion.

Her daughter, my niece, come to me to have her nails done and tells me . The ex-sil won't come to me on principal, but that's her lookout.

I sell nail scrubbing brushes and explain how to keep nails clean when going through the maintenance of the nails, whilst I do the application of the first set.

Surely having dirty nails is just bad hygiene.

can anyone give me a quick run through of what they tell clients to do with regards to cleaning their nails...i know this sounds obvious but in my training it wasnt covered at all.

some of my clients natural nails under the enhancement become yellow or stained and i also do hair stylists who have dye etc under theirs...

sorry if im being dense but am a newie and have been thrown in at the deep end with what i now know is poor training.

This is why I don't like doing it. I was shown in training that a small cone bit could be used to thin sculps at the free edge from the underneath with a efile. When I used to go to a salon to have my nails done and knew no better the 'tech' would burn and cut it finger tips with her cone bit trying to do this

not always!!!

Im an absolute dirt magnet!!! I can literally be out the house for half hour and my nails get filthy. Its gross!!!

Im ok at work because i wash my hands and scrub my nails alot.

But seriously, i only have to hold my hand up and my nails get dirty!! lol.

:(

I only clean/thin out their f/e underneath when they ask for it and i only thin the very end of the f/e, which will be removed with the next rebalance when shorting (sp?) the nails. I have a few clients who don't like to see their own nails at all. They prefer me to sculpt a new tip. And others who like to have a nno with clear for a change. I agree with lousier, the secret is to not get any product under their nails at all. :)

When clients come to me with 'dirty' nails, which tbh usually means they look discoloured. They seem to forget they are comparing them to the whiteness of their enhancement. I use CND, which does not discolour by itself.

It stands to reason that they will look 'dirty' or discoloured because they are using the whiteness of the french to compare.
Also, clients forget that fake tanning lotions & makeup can discolour the underside as can hair dyes, peeling potatoes too!
The hair dyes have always discoloured hairdressers nails, but if they are wearing enhancements, do we tell them to wear gloves? Yes, we do. Do they though? No, they don't:smack:.

I do have a client who appears to eat with her hands (its true I've watched her eat before, no cutlery needed, apparently!) her nails always seem to be orange/red under the free edge. It doesn't seem to bother me, only her. I still wouldn't like to interfere too much under her nails though, I have told her to scrub with a nail brush and whitening tooth paste, it really does work! xx
