i have only been training for about a week but i am having extreme difficulty in applying the tips.it seems that if i pick one that seems to 'fit' t doesnt stick, if i pick one that is way too big then it does fit !!! is this right?? also it says in the book that the tip shud only cover 30% of the nail, but all the tips to go with the nail trainer cover about 60%,!!!! plz help i really want to be successful at this.x.

Hi

I am doing an essential nails course too. I am doing the acrylics. They don't tell you which tip to use because you are meant to size them yourself. I have found that sometimes they stick and other times they don't. I have been told to try CND gelbond. Apparently it sets in about 10 seconds. I haven't actually bought one yet.

I found that I didn't etch the natural nail enough and that prevented the tips sticking. Also if you use too much glue, that can stop it too.

I hope I helped.

Hi ive done the EN gel course and as the above post says invest in some gel bond you will soon see the difference i also changed the tips i used as i thought the ones supplyed were really hard to blend and very thick and yes before you ask you are allowed to change the tips just as long as you use natural tips:green:

You also mentioned that all the nails cover must of the natural nail what nail number are you working on the 13 or 6 if its 13 the switch to 6 and you will be amazed with the difference

Good luck and please feel free to pm if you need anymore advice:hug:

Hi there, I am an educator in SA and use the nail trainers for my students. Due to the trainer being plastic, sticking can be a problem. Another alternative which i use is to spray the nail with resin activator before applying the tips. This aids the setting of the glue much quicker. Good luck:hug:

This is a good idea and activator can save the day if you are having problems but most EN students do not have activator nor do they know how to use it -- In any case, CND Gel Bond works perfectly without needing to use any activator -- makes it virtually impossible to get any bubbles in the adhesive which is a great plus for students. Fantastic product to teach with too as students do not get stuck to everything as it is so controllable. Maybe you should try it too.

When I first started doing my E.N course I also had problems with sticking the tips on....I tried to eliminate everything and found it was mainly down to either putting too much adhesive in the well or because there was still dust either on the nail or on the tip itself...you can give the nail and back of the tip a quick wipe with a lint free pad lightly sprayed with the sanitiser provided with the course...this will help get rid of any tiny peices of dust you may have missed.

A tip thats larger than the nail is more likely to fit..this is because altho the tip will be wider than the nail...the c-curve of this tip is more likely to match the c-curve of the nail as the larger tip will be wider and flatter ( have a good look at the smaller tips...you can see the c-curve is much deeper than a large tip).
If the tip fits but is too wide you just simply file a bit off equally on each side of the tip until it fits the nail exactly from sidewall to sidewall, you musnt use a tip that is too small.

And finally...the tips do cover alot of the nail...thats so you can practice blending in and show that you are capable of blending the tips in properly, which obviously every tech should be capable of..however....you can trim some of the well out and/or thin it a bit before sticking to the nail.

Hope ive explained ok and it helps a bit...dont be too hard on yourself...youve only just started remember...sometimes you just cant seem to do something and think youll never get it...then one day for no apparant reason...you can do it no probs! weird but true lol

but you cant buy it unless you are qualified can you?

Im also doing a EN course, im not having probs sticking on the tips but i am having probs with air pockets so i have ordered some Gelbond too.

There is a certain tip number to fit each trainer nail number - they haven't told you which one is for which because that would make it too easy. This gives you practice deciding which tip you should be using on nails so you have to work that one out yourself. I worked mine out then i called the Support Line just to check that i had got it right. Feel free to pm anytime if you get stuck xx

Which kind of tips did you switch too?

Hopefully you mean the trainer nails, as you should not in any way etch natural nails only lightly buff shine away. If the products need etching on natural nails they simply arn't proffesional enough imo.
But keep on practising, did part of the course myself, but never qualified as the more I learned the more I missed from the course, so I took a cnd conversion and are now well on the way to become grand master.... But as a start it can help you decide whether you want to do nails or not...
