Im currently still in college but my dream is to open a salon doing mainly nails. You could say I specialise in doing hand drawn nail art like in the pics but is there a market for these kind of designs?
Ive done the girls nails at college when we've had a rare free day and they love them but they always seem to turn their noses up when I ask for a £5 to do a full nail art mani!

Sorry I forgot the pics were quite big!! Oh and please dont comment on the quality these are a little old! :)

Well I'm finding that now with UV nail colors like shellac and Gelish clients are wanting a bit of nail art again as now they don't have to Waite hours for it to dry,

Some designs on tips are not always do-able on clients due to shape length complexity or dry time. And sometimes clients are put off by the thought of looking OTT.

Sometimes we find a cool client who loves it but for the most part less is more.

Maybe try doing accent fingers Insted of all?
Just art on ring fingers with a good matching color on the others is a good comprise .

Yes when I do my friends they nearly always have designs on their thumb and ring finger. Id love to have a salon like wah-nails.co.uk, sadly newcastle under lyme dont have many "cool customers" like london ^^

Wow. These are amazing! Did u do them freehand? Xx

You paint really nicely but ....

With the advent of MINX you can do all 10 nails in very little time and it lasts better and is instantly dry and affordable.

No sense doing hand painting if people won't pay for it !

You are deffinatly inspired by WAH nails! They are fab! Though WAH charge about £30+ for these designs. They effort you put into them is so detailed £5 seems too cheap too me :s I'd do £5 for a couple of nails x where are you based? X

My god you are very very talented!! X

Aw thanks lol! x
And Im in Newcastle Under Lyme, Staffordshire

I'm glad you asked this question JemmaB! I love nail art, it's my favourite thing about doing and wearing nails (moreso than extensions etc)

You're mega talented and like you I really hope that there is a market for detailed nail art. I'm worried that customers might prefer the less "eccentric" designs but I think my approach to that would be wearing my own art to show how great it looks :)

Deffo charge more than a 5er, these are ace :)

One had better be interested in producing beautiful natural looking nails first, rather than nail art. If the nails are not beautiful then the nail art looks allot less than perfefct. Many more women want nails that look natural than they want nail art.

Nail techs are in business to do what the clients want not what they want or like doing. If I had relied on nail art for my salon business, I would have gone bust years ago. Less than 1% of my business was nail art despite the fact that I am an artist and hand painted nails were easy for me to do.

When ever I see nail art it is on the technicians not the clients. Reality check.

Blunt words, but so very very true. I too am very 'arty' and find handpainted designs easy to do, but I very seldom use this skill. In reality, Christmas (handpainted holly with red diamantés for berries being the most requested) & the occasional nail art party are the only time I get to utilise this skill, as handpainted nail art is just not that fashionable in my area. Minx, however, is very popular - especially on toes. On the plus side, the ability to control brushes so well should prove a huge asset in creating the beautiful nails Gigi describes.

BUT if you enjoy doin them then u keep on.. always look gd displayin them as well as it shows u have talent and patience & can be a gd talkin point i find with mine.

keep up the gd work & gd luck wit ur future business xxxxxxxxx:)

hi i love your designs i charge £6.00 for simple art then it goes up, i inc nail art in a full set but the simple kind if they want more they will pay !!

nearly all my clients have some form of nail art x

Great hand painted designs but I like to also use striping tape, nail glitter, rhinestones etc. You can really make your nail art flourish when you embed cracked ice etc. into gel and acrylic. I find my customers really like to get flowers embedded in clear gel...it looks georgeous!

I went on it and it taught me all I know.

I do agree that in my experience nail art is not very popular, but then again I dont promote it.
I think that if you are passionate about nail art and wear it yourself, it will rub off on your clients-especially at £5 for a full set.
So please dont be put off by anyones comments, yes be competent at creating a good nail to give the nail art a good base, but if this aspect of nails excites you then good on 'ya.
xx

I think nail art excites all nail technicians if they have an artistic bone in their body .. just a pity that it does not excite the majority of clients unless you give it away for nothing  If clients were asked to pay what they should be paying for nail art, they would go for it even less than they do now. That and the time involved is why so many love Minx .. affordable, perfect and relatively quick.

Not trying to put anyone off ... but I do try to teach nail technicians to be realistic ... which is good business advice.

Hi I'm in Newcastle upon tyne, but nail art is really popular up here, I do agree on ring finger and thumb for full designs and just a small designs on the other nails,
most of our clients also go for acrylic glitters and colours and even 3d flower designs or bows etc, obviously we do French as well but even then it's often in a diff colour, your art work is lovely and I would not make it too cheap think of the time you spend doing a set of nails and how long it will take to do a set of nail art x
