Just ordered course!

Hi everyone...I am new to this and i have just ordered my Acrylic Nail Course from essential nails.....Im so excited! I see alot of you have already completed this course, and i was just wondering if after completion how easy it is to either start your own business or get a job in a nail salon?

Also would you recommend i then proceeded to do the nail maitenence and nail art course? does the nail art course teach u nail art on acrylics or just natural nails?


Just a last word to say hi to everyone and im sure u will be seeing alot more of me my course arrives thursday im sooo excited at the mo im a single mum of a 2yrold girl and im not working...im looking to do this course to get something more out of life...have a trade behind me and to show my lil girl that mummys work too, which is why im just checking how easy it is to work professionally after completion of the course?




Just remembered something..after you hve your certificate does this enable to to purchase nail supplies from anywhere or do you have to get them from essential nails? Do you get discounts for being qualified?

some of its not easy so dont get disheartend!!

i would also recomend that in the future, go college and have further training in nails, classroom based, as i found the downside to essential nail is that you dont learn how to prep the nails properly, you cant do it on a plastic nail.
prepping properlyit is an essential part of doing nail enhancements, from experience, thats what i found.

Hi hun, welcome to the site, and good luck with your course.
I would definitely do the maintenance course afterwards, nail art course I wouldn't bother with tbh, you can learn just as easy yourself by looking on utube and other websites.
I have done 3 courses with EN and work from home, once you have passed your course tho, you will need lots more practice, best thing to do is offer model rates and use family and friends as guinea pigs.

Hi, and welcome, I have been a member here for years but came away from nails and now Im coming back again.

I hope I dont rain on your parade by saying this but I 'tried' to train with Essential Nails a few years back, and didnt complete the course. I found that I needed the help there with me to show where I was going wrong. Infact I got so frustrated I nearly gave up nails altogether!

I have since come back (after a couple of years break) and am practising on my nail trainer and my nail technician is helping to teach me the basics, and then I will go on to do a nail course (one you attend, rather than home) to gain a certificate so eventually I can then either work in a salon or go out on my own.

After my waffle my honest opinion would be that the Essential Nail course is hard to do, as I found i needed the help in the room to show me where I was going wrong. I am not however, saying it will not work with you!!

Thanks to everyone who replied...thank to this forum i stopped myself making a mistake i was going to learn with the uk open learning college but after all the praise essential nails have recieved i decided to go with them! Lets just hope i can pass it! Does anyone know if the kit comes with the essentials come with the stuff you need to practice on real people or if its just practice on the nail trainer? im assuming that some of the products will be different if applying to a human hand?

The tips only come in certain sizes so they wont be very good for people and the glue isnt great, so you might want to change that. Other than that I think you can use the rest of the kit xx

All the advice you have been given is great just stick with it you sound very determined which is a big must with home learn.

If you havent already i recommend you join the EN group you can get much help and advice there.

I myself have done the gel and maintenance and ive just started the acrylics one.

I'm very new here and nearly went with your first choice too, but I exhausted myself the other night searching key words on here, and realising it's EN i want to go with, JellyJane beat me to it, and she will be getting hers Thurs (me, I had a massive row with the fiance about it and it now looks we are going our separate ways, all over EN Homestudy course lol..)so for me it's a massive setback now

Ive currently just done an acrylic course with EN, and have been using their products through out the course (Dream), however I would like to know if there is anyone that have started practising on people ie family/friends or clients even with this system, and how they have found it? or whether anyone has changed system, and if so which one and why??? I understand fully to have full understanding of the product which I intend to, but just wanted to know general the feel of what other people are doing. Also, i have purchased from their website the speedy tips, (anyone used these)? These obviously reduce the filing, however, I have as it has small well tip unlike the natural ninety tips they recommend I fear they may come off easier.

Any tips/advice would be much appreciated.

I too have just been sent my course from EN- well about 2 weeks ago. I chose this course because I started working in a salon in 1997 straight from school. I was in house trained and worked there for about 8 years. I left a couple of years ago but always wanted to get back into it. But my boss had never actually put me through a course and i had no qualification.

This course is good for me, because it gives me the chance to do it when i want to do it, but you DO have to be sooo motivated!

I'm doing the EN acylic course. I must say, with 2 kids (6 months & 2 years old) I find it really hard to get some uninterupted practice time. My course arrived a good few months ago and i still havent sent off my first card yet. :cry: I try to practice a little every day but learning at home is not nearly as simple as i hoped!! I love the course but i've found things suddendly alot easier after reading the advice off this site.
Good luck with everything. For mum's its a nice to have something to think about other than the children and the idea of working towards a future career is great.

i too have not long started this course, and so far have found it great, obviously as others have said i understand that i will need to do more "hands on" courses once this is complete, but at the moment it is perfect for me as with 2 young children i can do this in the evenings.

You can buy products as a student from your local wholesaler ie Capital, Barkers, Sallys ect. You do normally need a card, The only place that has asked for my certificates is Sallys!

I hope your self study goes well chick, but I have to agree with 'maximum beauty' You will need more training for sure! When you can produce fab nails that last 2 weeks you will be able to start up as mobile/home salon to build a client base as in my experiance that is what Salon owners are looking for in a self employed tech. I have found the majority of postions available are not employed.

I hope you enjoy your course and I'm sure your little girl will be dead proud of mummy!

hello. its been mentioned b4 . i have just completed the EN acrylic and Maintainance
the tips and glue not good i changed mine and they worked loads better to.
its def no to same as a real hand.

I would really do the maintainance as it doesnt really show u alot of the natural nail. i was v disappointed with it. for a lot of money and its not the same as a real nail. u can watch the dvd from the main course and practise on urself.

Iv just started the nail art?

you can't do a conversion with a reputable nail company if you've completed your course with essential nails..

When you first start out in nails and beauty etc you don't understand the big hype about the larger nail companies..i know i didn't.
I don't see how you can become a good nail tech from learning with a DVD...

Personally, I'm afraid I think it was unkind and unhelpful to suggest to the new EN students posting here that they have 'wasted their money'... You have to appreciate that home learning CAN have it's place within the industry and has been successful for many people. You have to understand that for some students with small children who cannot be away from home to attend a classroom course, home learning is an ideal way (maybe the only way) to learn a new skill which could well develop into an exciting new career.

I don't believe any home learner expects to become a master nail tech overnight, they will know it takes hard work and a LOT of practise - But, with determination it can be done.

I wish you all lots of luck and hope you enjoy your course.

Thats not actually true you can do a conversion with some companys with the EN cert the one i know you cant is CND.

EN i think is a great start for you on the road to nails yes you dont get what you would get from a classroom based course but for some thats there only option.
