Yes, that's the word I used...

LIARS!!

I was dropping my children off at their dance class, and found on the counter pamphlets from a neighboring salon.

Some of the "marketing" words used are:

"Hand massage with ***** (brand name removed) essential oil which includes Calcium"
and this does WHAT for the hands and nails???????

"Porcelain powder"
so is she baking their fingers in an oven?

"Natural nail covering: solidifying of the nail by application of a natural resin directly on the nail and covered with a thin layer of finishing"
Resin is natural since when????

OMG it frustrates me beyond belief to see such marketing.
I don't mind HONEST AND QUALIFIED technicians competing with me for business.

BUT I HAVE NO USE FOR LIARS.

All they do is hurt the industry further!

Ive heard this before on a price list porcelain interesting choice of words x

This is how I magine the result from these treatment LOL

So basically handmassage with calcium enriched lotion.............. for what????? Stiffer fingers????? and crackle glaze skin lol
Porcelain powder to go with the nice bone china tea cup she will be holding with her fab nails????
Natural resin, is that the one she harvested from the nearest pine tree, they ooze with resin if you break off a branch!!!!!

Rise above it Victoria, I know its hard, but I am still over this side of the pond fighting the: Nails have to breath fight lol!!!!!

They use the term 'porcelaina' in Spain, it went out with the Ark so at least you know that she's more than likely using techniques that went out with the Ark too.

Try not to let it get to you hunny
(easier said than done though).

Thanks ladies

As per pamphlet.... "20 years experience"

I've been pondering this for a while... and now I've decided.... I WILL do it.

After Xmas and everything slows down, I'm going to write an INFORMATIVE/EDUCATIONAL/TRUTHFUL article and submit it to the papers.
I will leave my business name off of it so that A) they don't think it's a case of sour grapes against the competition B) so that they don't think I'm looking for free advertising....

I want the TRUTH out there....

And at the end of the article, I'll state something along the lines of

"But you don't have to take MY word for it. Here are some links to articles provided by Health Canada & etc... and from places where there ARE Regulating Offices in place and where Licenses ARE a requirement"
or some such, to that effect.
Encouraging consumers to educate themselves further.

Even if only 1 person in the whole town actually reads it, and learns from it.... that person will share that info with someone else... and so on..................

Education and Knowledge is the only way to combat these idiots.
But if the public doesnt know what it is that they "don't know", they won't look for the information.

Hi that's so true ..... I asked a young Lady in Spain ..... not that long ago
about her nails as they were very pretty , and she too said she had porcelaina nails,
They were really very nice though ..... but they looked just like a set of very well done liquid and powder to me, they looked a nice natural pale see through pink and not too bright on the tips ..... but still nice and fresh looking

I asked her twice as I thought I had miss heard her ..... and she said "yes it was Liquid and powdered porcelain"
but she was so nice and she really believed that they were porcelain so I just nodded and smiled

lol porcelain nails , lol ,you should go one better hun and say you do nals with play doh ,
and for resin you could use the finest maple syrup , lol
it never fails me what some salons come up with !!!!

Hi Victoria,
I read your post with interest - is not all business run that way now! The banks, the housing market etc. etc.
Was business ever honourable? After all the definition of business is too profit - but my question is how much? For how long and how honourable is this word business.
In this part of the world the whole nail tech business is out of control. When I came home 2003 - i was the only nail tech now there are too many to count - beauticians that do a 2 day course but because they are already beautcians (many who are not qualifed because they did not finish the course) but have money and can open a beauty shop - are doing a roaring trade. And while I applaud the the progression of small business I do not agree - like you - with some of the distributers marketing policys.
Where is ANT?
Now I have woman asking me why I don't use an electric file - and I ask why- and they retort that you cannot do nails properly without an electric file, that the first layer of their natural nail has to be taken off for the acrylic or gel to adhere and that they don't care if it compromises their natural nail as long as the nails stay on!
Now how bad is that!
I am tired, I am scundered, I am disillusoned with the nail industry.

Lol, some people.

Rise above girlies!

At least you know that you provide a good service that will not compromise their nails. Grab this persons poor clients when they are done because it sounds like they will probably need you.

Clients today and non-professionals in general don't seem to have any education or true information given to them. Leaving them in ignorance, you can't expect them to know a "true" treatment so its our job to pass on the message.

VHunter if you do write an article (which i think would be fantastic) please post it so we can have a read.....promise not to copy it, lol xxx

All the slons here have porcelein nails too, which is just L&P and they charge more. Horrible. One client told me a women kept insisting she get procelin:eek:When I tell my clients that porcelin doesnt exist some of them dont even believe me.

Another HUGE myth here is that acrylics are "bad" and gels are "good" because they let your nails breath and are "all naturel"

My nail tech in Gatineau uses CND and I use NSI. She tells me NSI is acrylic and hers is Resine yet its the CND liquid and powder system. She has been a nail technician for 10 years:!:

What exactly is Resine because all the nail techs in gatineau claim they use Resine but it surelooks likme CND L&P to me...

This is the current trend of the french schools in Quebec. To refer to "Acrylic" as "Resine" or "Resine tisser" (which means 'woven resin'... when was the last time YOU could weave resin?).
It's their way of marketing it because Acrylic has become a bad word WHICH doesn't help the industry. What they should be doing is educating their techs PROPERLY then tell them to EDUCATE the consumers

Soooo it makes it confusing when clients come to me and say they have XYZ... I don't even bother taking their word for it. Instead, I ask them to describe to me what was done and then pull out my various products (I do 3 systems: Tip-n-dip, Uv Gel, L&P Acrylic) and ask them to show me which is used on them.

THEN I EDUCATE THEM!!!

PS: "resine" also refers to "tip-n-dip". It's commonly known as "gel-resine" here in Quebec, referring to the two different viscosities of the two different resins used for the service. Resin is applied, then acrylic powder is sprinkled on the nail, then a thinner/runnier resin is applied over top, then activator.

hth's

The people here in Spain have been calling L&P 'porcelaina' for years.

Now we all know that no nails are made of porcelain (not unless you want your fingers fired at 1200º ) and that someone just felt it was a nicer name than ACRYLIC just like they call wraps things like Glass Nails or Crystal Nails to make it all sound classier (in someone's opinion).

It all just confuses the end consumer who pretty well knows next nothing about what we use (and why should they?) and could care less. They are easy prey for any technician who wants to 'influence' them to any way of thinking. Sadly many uneducated or ill informed nail technicians believe this stuff as well and pass it along.

Sounds like the 20 year experienced nail technician hasn't had a class to update or to keep current her knowledge for at least 19 of them!

That about sums it up, in my opinion.
And apparently, she teaches.
I have fixed some her clients, upon whom either 'she' or one of her 'students' has worked...
You would ge AGHAST at the damage.
One of my clients is STILL suffering, and growing it out.
I posted about her a while ago...
DREADFUL mess!

I tell my clients its acrylic when they ask, a lot of them say isnt it resine the "gatineau nails"

Im doing a rebalance on someone tomorrow that has "porceline" ...why do I see a lot of filing in my future:lol:
