Does anyone else have this problem? I find when i am working on a client i get a major cramp in my thumb that is holding the clients finger. I literally have to stop in the middle of what i am doign and shake it out beasue it hurts so bad. will my thumb get used to this and eventually stop having cramps or what? I do notice that the few people i have done are very stiff and don't relax their fingers which makes it harder for me. But i don't know if it contributes to the cramp. Is there something i can do for this?

I also suffer with cramp in my fingers from time to time, but I think that's because I'm double-jointed in both my hands.

It sometimes helps to lightly squeeze a soft ball in the palm of your hand (whilst your relaxing at home ... not in the middle of a nail service, obviously!).

You can also get miniature bean-bags (sometimes called de-stressers) in some health shops (and they do the job just as well as a ball).

Keep on reminding them to relax, when they have their fingers tensed up you have to literally fight with them to be able to get/keep the finger in the right place... that will definitely contribute to cramp.

I find I get it if I'm holding their finger too tightly, again, with clients who are tense.

Just shake your clients hand a little and ask them to relax and let their hand go limp, explain to them that they will get cramps if they are tense and that you need to be able to move their hands into the position that you need it to be at different stages of the treatment hth

OMG I thought I was just weird! Yes I had this problem and as Valencian says I realised that it only happened when the client was tensing their finger. I now say to relax their hand and dont have the problem anymore! Really, it works.

I have file at the ready for a couple of my problem clients.. It seems at tiimes they are trying to control what i am doing... If they are tensing up they get a quick snap on the fingers with the file and a shake of my head!
also i remind them that if they can see there nails i cant, so relax! lol

one partricular client is so bad that by the time im finished her i feel like ive struggled with a brick for and hour and a half.

I have a client who keeps her hands real tense too. It's like she's trying to look at them but I found out she really dislikes having her nails filed - like nails on a chalkboard. This makes it hard for me to really take the time I need to refine them properly knowing this! And my thumb gets quite sore trying to grip.

Sometimes they think they are helping by holding their fingers in a certain position!

Oh I am stealing that phrase hahaha, I have so many people pointing their nails up :lol::lol:

They are such a pain when they hold their fingers stiff!! As CurlyQ's says, it's probably because they dislike the sensation of filing, but it sure does make the job difficult. Even if you ask them to relax, some of them still have a problem doing it .. . but yes, you are not alone in your finger cramps!
