I'm listed on yell and ive got quite a few new clients from them. Ive had it since December only. I didn't realise I could use for free because as soon as I signed up, a lady called me. I don't regret paying for it but free is always better. Lol. :p

Hi Geeks

Such a good thread! I'm slightly different as my clients/potential clients are all people in the industry such as yourselves! But the basic marketing ideas/concepts are the same for all types of business I guess.

One marketing idea that I did do which worked well (& might work for some of you too!) was that I had some customised cotton bags made. They have a black & white image of a model (taken from my website) & then simply Salon Tax written in pink at the bottom.

I carry one round wherever I go, as well as giving them out to potential clients & all of my friends & family (they must curse the day I started my own business!). I've had lots of people come up to me & ask where I've got my bag (because the image is so striking!) & then that gives me an opportunity to tell them all about my business. Obviously not everyone will require my services but often people know someone who might.

So any opportunity to get people talking about your business has got to be a good one!!

I looked at this thread briefly when I started my business 6 months ago, and was booming since I started (yay!). Had a busy January, now experiencing a more subdued February (normal, I know).

So since I've had a quiet afternoon, I'm going to sit down with this thread, make some proper notes and get more clients!

Thanks for keeping me motivated, Salon Geek! And if I think if anything myself, I'll be sure to post it!

I've got paid ad on yell have a few enquiries but only 2 clients will not use it again

So my salon got broken into and the thief stole several hundred dollars worth of product and cash. Looks like I'll be using ideas from this thread soon.

My business partner and I decided instead of passing the expense of replacing everything to our clients, we're going to have a "Steal Of a Deal" promotion on the remaining retail products.

We've had a lot of support from our clients and while this was awful, I think that were actually going to see a significant increase in business.

Hi

I have had a paid ad in yell had a few calls from it all asking for this I do not provide like Botox., wraps not had any clients from it will not do it again net mums has been good for me

I've got free ad on Yell and had 3 bookings for Intimate Waxing in the last couple of weeks. It appears half way down the page but I made sure the heading says I specialise in Brazilian/Intimate Waxing and I've added some pictures of my room. I asked both clients why they called me and they said it's because of my title on Yell. The other client is coming in the morning. Here's my ad if you are interested

Pearl's - Intimate/Brazilian Waxing Specialist, Maidenhead | BEAUTY SALONS & CONSULTANTS - Yell

I've done a spreadsheet where I list places where my clients live.

I'm quite surprised that a number are coming from one particular place so I'm going to do a bit of targeted marketing there.

Good idea but didn't your insurance cover the loss? This way you can replace everything.

This took me about a week to put together, but I think it'll help you folks find more ways to promote yourself as a hair stylist.

P.S. Lot's of reading material. If you want to take full advantage of the post, you'll have to set aside a bit of time to go through it.

Cheers!

I have noticed 2 streets where I think/know everyone must visit our salon. Crazy when you do this what you actually realise. Leaflet drops next week on the streets next door ;)

Just posting so I can follow!

Has anyone else gone through another company with any success?
