The past few weeks I have reallt struggled to get motivated with my salon. Its been really busy in the salon which I know I should be pleased about, but I just feel miserable about being so busy and tired all the time (I know thats a dreadful thing to say)

My personal life has been in turmoil since November and I know this is affecting work but I'm so worried that I'm not going to be able to pick myself up and the business will be seriously affected.

What does everyone else do to get themselves motivated when they just are feeling a bit ...rubbish?!

I love my job but the past few weeks that we have been busy I have been struggling to get into it like I usually do.

Thanks in advance for any help xxx

Hiya Kim, i know how you feel. I've had a hard time since November too.

I find that if i do a course i really feel a boost, especially because i use Dermalogica and they have free courses.

Otherwise why don't you organise yourself a treat? You said you are tired all the time, what about a massage or even a weekend away.

Quite often i find that once i start the day i'm fine, its just the thought of it. Then if i'm knackered i get a good dvd, have a nice bath, good book, face pack, the works, and order in a take away.

I hope you're feeling better soon! xx

I know exactly how you feel honey. I have loads of problems (relationship & finances) yuk!! and I was an absolute wreck during January. I slept and slept and slept, struggled to get up, had loads to do, yet couldn't seem to get anything done ... ring any bells lol?

The way I am dealing with it is to write off Jan as a bad month. I even celebrated the end of January on Sunday night and actually watched the clock change into February. Ok its early days for Feb, but I am bursting with positivity and am determined Feb is going to be a fantastic month. Already good things seem to be happening. Ok I know its just cognitive psychology but it's really powerful.

Why not join me in a Fantastic February Fiesta and stick two fingers up to doom and gloom?!

I totally understand how you feel, I went through a tough time about 2 years a go......Men lol.

I felt like I hated my salon and everything gets on top of you and you cant see a way out.

I had to take a step back and have some time to myself, it gave me a clear head and let me think clearly about what I wanted to do. Try get away on a holiday or a weekend away if you can.

As it turns out, I came back raring to go with lots of new ideas and very motivated

p.s I went a bit extreme and went travelling for 8 weeks on my own, it the best thing I have ever done :)

I really wanna go on a new course to just get myself a kick start back into things.

And yes, the golden word is MEN!!!!! grrrrrrr

Going to have a look at the salon tomorrow and see if there is a point where i can take some time off work, have a friend in Sheffield that I'd like to see and also in Newcastle.

My whole dynamic has changed cos I've had to move twice since Nov, split with my bf who I lived with, am now having to pay sooo much for rent and bills etc...

Would love to go on a big trip away but the salon would fall down without me at the moment!!!! Maybe in the summer time. Find it difficult not having someone at home to talk to about worky stuff. xxx

Yeah you should, even if you have to cancel some clients and go see your friend.

I know new courses always get me motivated to, do you do make up?

I know I was very lucky, I had a business partner that supported me infact she was probably dying to get rid of me I was so miserable lol.xx

Honey if you have moved twice since November then it's no wonder you are shattered. You seriously need to look after yourself or you will make yourself ill. Can you do a spa day or something? With your friend? Also (and I really don't want to sound like a mum here) but ... are you eating well? vitamins or anything?

LOL am I eating well...I stayed with my friend for a month and every night she had made a hearty meal for me...I prob should be taking some vitamins. I will go to tescos tomorrow and get myself stocked up. i didnt eat much just because its busy but i am trying to eat more healthy, it makes a difference for me.

I really need to get some time out. Will check the diary tomorrow cos I keep talking about it and doing nothing about it. :)

a spa daywould be good, could maybe get something arranged with my friend. need to do something to get out of the rut.

Thanks everyone. xxx

Good girl lol :) xxx

I find time off just makes me edgier as I then worry about the salons.
My little boosts are a day out with my best pal, or a bloody good night out with friends that make me laugh out loud.
Things being crap is always just a phase that will pass. Think back to something that was a crisis at 16, or 20, not important now is it?
You are a boss, and it is hard at times, nobody but yourself can motivate you.
Lets face it, you must be a tough old bird to have a salon in the first place.
So come on, deep breath, chin up and onwards x

Yes, I do feel like I need to snap out of it, gonna try to plan a day away on a Sunday when I'm not in the salon, or possibly finish a bit early one day to see how the girls get on without me.

i know in the long run everything will be great...just need a kick to get me out of this feeling!!! :D xxx

Good luck Kimi.
You might find in the short term just doing some regular exercise/ classes /gym would make you feel better. It would definitely give you a bit more energy. Or even try and get out for a brisk walk, costs nothing.
I don't think this time of year helps either, it's so bloomin dark all the time! You might have seasonal affective disorder? Hopefully once spring comes that will make you feel better too.

I think even having a wee bit of a think about it tonight has made me feel a bit better. There is a history of mental health issues in my family so I do try to keep a check on myself in that respect.

been trying to research hair extensions...I've wanted to do this for such a long time...its so overwhelming. :D xxx

take a look back to where you were a couple of months ago and what you have had to deal with - bring it up to the present - you have come far! Well done you! My guess is you will be stronger and more resiliant from the experience. Above all - tell yourself it is actually normal to feel how you are feeling considering the emotional turmoil you have coped with, and allow yourself to feel it without beating yourself up. Then you can pick yourself up and move on. X

I do feel so much better than I did before Christmas, and am so lucky to have such good friends helping me out.

I've actually already achieved some of the tasks I set myself to be completed asap, quite proud of myself.

Sometimes I just need a "snap out of it" slap!!!! lol. Emailed Balmain about a hair extensions course which is on next month :)

Thanks xxx

This site a blessing because everyone really wants to help each other. It's really nice to see and it must make you feel better seeing that everyone has been in the same position as you for one reason or another. Here are my ideas / comments:

Having your own salon itself is a huge source of stress and can really sap your energy. You need to remember how hard you worked to get into this position and think about why you wanted to do it in the first place.

Day to day make sure you get at least 30 exercise and fresh air - even a quick walk can really clear your head and help you to sleep better. Make sure you're getting as much sleep as you can - it really helps.

If you can't take too much time out from the salon - plan little treats: lunch with a friend, a trip to the cinema, even a glass of wine, nice bath and a good magazine or book can give you a boost.

Whatever doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. You will come out the other side of this more resilient and more capable.

I just had the most stressful week of my life and I got through it by getting good nights sleep and talking to friends. I was off work this afternoon so I pampered myself and really relaxed.

I hope this helps?

:)
