Hi dog lover geeks I always have a look at rehoming sites and the bullmastiff rehoming sites just out of interest not because I want another just yet lol as my boy is enough right now but I like to have a look and a recurring senario is repeated time and time again.............

1.we would like to re home out 10 month old bully due to us expecting a baby and he's to big to have around said baby.......

What the hell did they not know how big they are and what difference does it make having a baby as long as that dog is well trained what difference does it make absolutely disgusts me they should have thought about this before making babies.

2.have to re home our bullmastiff because we live in a flat he's to big.

What a load of bull as long as that dog is given good walkes out and you take it out for a wee and poo regualy it doesn't matter about being in a flat at all.why get a big dog if this is how you feel.

3.re homing our bullmastiff because were out all day and it's not fair on

You know what no it isn't fair because if they did there research they would know that bullmastiffs suffer from separation anxiety and do not like being left for long periods of time at all there big woosys lol.

4. Can't afford out boy he costs to much.

WTF did you think it would be cheep £5 a week hell no our boy costs us £105 insurance because of his breed and that covers us up to £12,000 a year just incase.A hip op is £7000 alone and that's without anything else.£100 every 4 weeks for his barking heads good you can't just feed um any old crap all dogs need good food but especially large breeds.

Now we did lots of research for a long time I know everything there is to know about the breed and more I am skink because of my boy but I wouldn't change it for the world we were in a stable financial state when we got him and were not now but I would never get rid I would rather starve for a week lol.he eats better than me lol.

It makes me sick those pointers I outlined I can't comprehend at all I understand peoples circumstances change but those pointers do not warrant getting rid of this fantastic breed well any dog.

Here's a pic of my boy.xxxxxx

He's Adorable x

We just don't get that my husband and I when people suddenly decide they are getting rid of their pets because they are expecting a baby.

Answer people are strange and so so fickle.

Changing the subject slightly....went to a client who was a foster carer and had a lovely little boy since he was six weeks. Went off to be adopted at 10 months. When he was 22 months they decided they didn't fancy being parents!!!! So goes back the poor little boy to the foster mum!

People have no commitment or staying power. Think they won't have to work at anything and it will just easily fall into place.

We have always had cats and got a puppy end of last year. It's not been easy but you have to be pretty naive to think it would be.

They like puppies and then realise they grow up and need time, money, exercise and lots of love!!!! Unfortunately it happens a lot. My dog was a rescue and same thing ..... He was little, brown and fury and he grew up and they couldn't cope but he is ok now but has been affected by the trauma x

OBIC .... Some people never fail to amaze me, I am speechless x

What a beautiful boy,

It breaks my heart when I see so many family pets given up, going to rescue or passed around on social networking sites, advertised on gumtree. I think th Lucky ones are the ones that end up in rescue homes if their owners don't wan them any more, the ones passed around like a commodity are the ones at risk of ending up as bait dogs for dog fights, Imagine you beautiful gently boy ending up like that. Just the thought of it brings tears to my eyes. Do you know 7000 dogs ( mainly Staffies and "scary looking" dogs are put to sleep every day in the UK because they cant find homes. Why are breeders still breeding when we are killing dogs as there are too many. Where is the sense in that?

Sorry for the rant but this is a cause that is very important to me, didn't mean for it to be upsetting to anyone but we dont realise the magnitude of the problem unless someone tells you what is actually happening

Both my rescue boys were discarded because their previous owners were pregnant and didn't feel that they would be suitable with kids in the house
their loss my gain

I completely agree with you it makes me sick.If I had a baby I would not be getting rid of my boy.Bullmastiffs are a very soft breed and fabulous with children and to be honest they think there smaller than what they are lol for example our boy Gary will fit in the smallest of spaces because he thinks ill fit there or I can get through there lol.yes they are big but that it not an excuse to get rid.

Unfortunatly people get bullmastiffs after not doing and research and are supprised when they grow and get huge or they just can't be bothered with the big loveable lumps.another reason for getting rid that I have seen is they slob to much:evil: yes they slob alot but why don't the dirty buggers just clean there house like we all have to do.

I totally agree with you about all the staffys that get put down it's awful and there a lovely breed of dog I've owned a couple and they were awesome dogs devastated when our boys passed.xx

We had a rottie and he was a very big boy! He was 12stone and in a beautiful shape! (not over weight) he was just huge. We never thought he would be that big as he was the biggest rottie we had ever seen lol. There is no way on earth we would have got rid of him. Taking on a dog is a commitment of love not a hobby! Despite their bad rep our George was a big softie and just loved people and children. Safely we lost out boy due to old age and cancer and things like tis make my blood boil! When looking at rejoining sites u never see "cute" little hand bag dogs! It's always big dogs that people take on with no research or understanding of their breed!! rant over.

What a lovely, healthy- looking dog. A credit to you CC.

I think there should be tight controls over the sale of pups.

Maybe no insurance, no pup. If someone can't afford to insure they certainly can't afford the vet's bills.
Compulsory training? I appreciate that many experienced owners wouldn't need these classes, though.
Chipping.

The child adoption topic is complex.
I have seen adoptive parents, childless, go into a lovely rosy haze before adopting. I could be wrong, but I think the pressure to place children sometimes means that, although the process is long, the whole picture isn't always presented, and there is a huge wake-up call when it actually happens. Some people embrace the challenges and others just can't cope. I think it must be awful for a child to be rejected, maybe for the second time in their little lives, but it must be a horrendous decision for the adoptive parents, too. What a burden of guilt.

Haha my two cute handbag dogs were rehomed after their elderly owners died (why get a dog at that age?!) and they were spoilt rotten! They were impossible to rehome as they hate cats, kids, visitors even us when we took them! Real anxiety & aggression issues - screwed up - but adorable beauties underneath!

They still hate everyone that visits though!! So I really feel for the dogs that get a bad rep they struggle to find new owners (I used to have a rottie though so I know the hype is all cr@p).

Here's my cutie-pie (she'd have your hand off!!)

Dandy thank you for your post gary is a very healthy young man at only 10months old lol.

We made all the relevant steps he's chipped insured and he's been going to puppy training every week since he was 12 weeks lol and we still go every week.

I think relevant steps need to be taken before you get a puppy regulations and such like.xxx

Vogue some dogs do grow larger than the breed specific lol our boy is already 47 kg lol and he's only 10 months he won't get much taller but he's going to get alot bigger in weight pure muscle there is no sign of him stopping getting bigger yet lol but were fine with it his dads a beast and so is his mum.lol.

Our boy is so soft and people can't believe how lovely he is it's all to do with the owner and relevant training.xxx

I 100% agree that it's all to do with the owner. Little dog can be worse as they feel more intimidated by other dogs and people. Here are a few pics of our boy. He is so missed we lost him a few months ago and it's just not the same in our home without him. We were going to get a puppy but I just don't think we should when there are so many loving dogs Taft need a home xxx

Hi

All gorg dogs!! I get sooo angry when I hear about these so called "dangerous dogs"

Ive had several staffy's rotties and currently my patterdale has a splash of staffy in her not once have any of my dogs gone for or tried to bite myself, a child or a member of the public is that to say they wont of course not but I can 100% say I have trained them well, shown them love and attention and looked after them well - abit like people really, teach them well, show them love and attention and generally they turn out well.

Currently my patterdale x staffy is as soft as a brush would rather lick your face than bite it, Ive had my 5 year old nephew all weekend and would I leave them alone together no - because shes part staffy? no its because shes a dog.

I wish people would research the dog they are looking into abit more and really ask the honest questions do I have enough time effort and money for this dog. My dog is traditionally a working dog and so loves lots of walks and exercise and goes at least once if not twice a day - the reality is its my responsibility to look after her and all of her needs

xx

So good to see that there are responsible owners out there. My dogs are both cross breeds, one is a Staffie X Border Collie ( looks like a small black lab) and the other is a GSD X Rottie. Our application to become foster parents was rejected due to our dogs being rescue and Dangerous dog breeds. Again, their loss! My GSDXRottie had major fear aggression issues when we got him due to being very poorly socialised as a pup but within a couple of weeks, once he trusted us we have never had a problem, I know how to read his body language and never let him become fearful. He was nearly 50Kg in February but has been dieting and now at 46Kg. The vets are always amazed at how much he trusts me, we had to have stitches removed from his eyelid a few weeks ago and he let them remove the stitches without a peep as long as I was holding him. Love him to bits, my Sam ( the staffie cross)is the most adorable beastie, I cant believe his owners gave him away after two and a half years ! He was impossible I was told, they couldn't cope with him, well we have NEVER had a problem, he instantly took to us and has great respect so he behaves really well with us.

Sorry for the essay but I could talk about my boys all day long

Oh yeah and to those irresponsible people out that complain about the cost of owning a dog - I see it as my hobby! My two cost me a fortune in insurance, healthy pet plan and dog walking when I'm at work. They're not spoiled but the food bill is the least of my costs at a mere £10-15 a month it's every other bloomin thing! But if it's too much-don't flipping get one! Grr.

I agree with all above posters owners should be made to pass a test or get a licence. When I went to get these from the dogs' trust they phoned up my previous vet to ask what kind of owner I was and if I regularly took them for check ups and if I was always willing to pay for medication. I was v impressed with that level of checking!

I was on my Facebook Yesterday and there was a woman selling staff pups for £75!!

I'm sick of seeing poor animals being bred and sold on to make money. How many staffs get put to sleep a week is an absolute joke.

I went to dogs trust the other week and I met a gorgeous rottie called tara. She was only 3 years old but had hip problems. Her owners brought her back because she went to the toilet in the house and she wrecked the back garden. She was never walked.

I have 2 cats from the RSPCA already and we really wanted to give Tara a new home. It didn't matter about her hips and she needed lots of ops. Tara went past the cattery there and went for one of the cats so we couldn't have her as I couldn't risk francesXXX and tigger getting scared.

I was absolutely gutted and actually cried when I left the centre, it's so sad seeing unwanted animals. They have feelings and they are so loyal and loving if they were given a chance.

I wish more people would rehome and not buy puppies on the cheap and then they get sent away ;(

How about adopting Tara, she is only about 40 miles away and at the dogs trust. Let us know what you decide

Oh how fabulous, your boy looked absolutely adorable and he must be sorely missed. I cant even bear to think about the day or days that my boys will have to leave us to go to rainbow bridge.Wouldn't it be great if you did end up giving an unwanted boy or girl another chance for a wonderful life with you and your family. Let me know what happens, PM or e-mail if you want as we probably shoudln't hi-jack the thread, but I am over the moon that you are thinking about adopting.

The slogan says--- Why Breed or buy while rescue animals die

He looks fab by the way, and seems in need of a loving home to build his confidence
