Help!! I had my first day renting a space in a salon and as I have only recently qualified am offering Full Sets for £10. The first girl who came in had quite badly bitten nails with no free edge. At college we were told if no free edge you can't put the tips on. I asked the lady who's salon it is for her advice and she said i could still put them on. So I did them but i felt very stressed and the end result wasn't as good as i would have hoped. I felt like I had lost all my confidence. What do other people do for badly bitten nails?

If they are severely bitten, I do a series of natural nail hot oil manicures and send the clients home with solar oil too. I let them grow until the eponychium is covered by the natural nail. That could take a week or two, depending on the rate of growth and how badly bitten they are.

I've had clients want me to perform miracles on there shredded stumps, and I just can't do it.

The other thing I've noticed about these 'chompers' is that they aren't picky about what they bite, nails, skin, whatever, so I am more comfortable getting their hands to a suitable state before I attempt to add enhancements.

I hope that helps.

hi i tend to get the nails back to a resonabel state b4 i will attach tips bitten nails you also have to see if it is just the nails they have bit or there skin as well i should know i was a biter up till i was 35:rolleyes: adding tips to bitten nails will cause more damage to the clients nails than they have already done if you explain this to them they should understand and not want to ruin there nails more, don't let this put you off and loses confidence you did what you were told to do by salon owner don't worry go with your instinct and what you have been taught rather than the salon owner you are new to this she isn't and she might have know a different way of doing it that she has learnt over years keep on with it and im sure you will do fine.

Thank you all for your replies, you have made me feel a whole lot better! Had she come to me on my own I wouldn't have done them as I did think she would prob just go away and bite them off!! The hot oil manicures sound good, might look them up and try them out in future.

Actually I think you did the right thing, usually what you find is that while they have enhancements on they don't bite, but if they loose one then that one nail will really suffer:lol:.
Also nail biters nails grow quicker so its a good idea for them to have weekly appointments just to keep everything tidy.

Nail biters enhancements never look as good as we want them to:cry: lets face it the majority of our clients have less then perfect nail beds and whilst its our job to improve the overall look unless you get someone with long slim fingers, perfect long nail beds and cuticles to die for they will never, in our eyes look perfect, if you do get a customer like that don't forget the before and after photo's for your web site:lol:

So chin up hun, you did good today and I bet she was really chuffed.

I tip nail biters with natural tips & then paint their nails ..... If they are severe i would manicure, treat cuticles and soalr oil and advise they wait....

I tell them to get some food in the cupboard lol

I let them grow until the eponychium is covered by the natural nail.
Sorry no offence but do you mean hyponychium rather than eponychium?

Absolutely. Thanks for catching that. Brain hiccup. That's what happens when you work alone....brain turns to mush.:o

just out of interest..... does no one extend the nail beds with pink and white? if i do a nail biter, which i love...its a great challenge, i would dry manicure on the day or manicure and hot oil the week before if the cuticles are over grown, then tip and do a reverse aplication to create elegant nail beds.. its more time consuming, takes me nearly 2 hours, but i charge more.... i have added a before and after picture of a client who had 2 damaged nails, and uneven nail beds, i extended them using ezflow high definition cover pink and white.

I sculpt... no free edge needed

hello, geeks:)
I found this way of sculpting on the bitten nails on one of a russian forums. Probably many of you will be against of it but someties it's the only way to "save" those who use their nails as a snack...
