I have just had a lady in who has been getting waxed for 20 years in a salon using australian wax she thinks it is, but only recently after the wax (which is lip and chin by the way)she has been going very red and her skin has gone blotchy as she describes for a few days afterwards. She didnt have any allergies and I gave her a patch test i use the Peron Rigot green tea and monoi..... i chose green tea for this occasion, she has just rang the next day and said it did go red and blotchy but only for the night which is less than it normally does. I'm not really sure what else to suggest can anyone help? And is this the best wax to use??
If anyone could suggest anything i would be really greatful! Thankyou xxx

What wax are you using? I normally use a honey wax and a lavender or tea tree wax for those clients usually sensitive. The trouble with some wax clients is they won't always listen to your aftercare advice. She could have gone home and slapped some cream and make up on it. If a client is particularly red and sore whilst in the salon, dab some milk on a piece of cotton over the affected area. If it's happened when they've gone home and only rang you ask them to come in and have a look. Tell your client to get some witch hazel and tea tree oil to rub on over night. I've had some clients who come in for waxing and are fine some occasions and not on others. Skin can change a lot. Mine goes from dry to oily from week to week. Your client may have had sensitive skin but because she doesn't usually she was unaware. Some clients don't always spot blood but you can find on the odd eyebrow wax they do and you'll be thinking, that doesn't normally happen. Have you been waxing her for long or ever for that matter? Don't forget, you don't know knew clients. You have to adjust to their skin just as much as they do.

I would use a pre wax oil, just apply a small amount then apply wax over the top,T tree is good for facial waxing and areas prone to sensitivity, also you could try non strip wax.HTH

PS are you giving her the correct after care,ie no make up and avoid touching the area following wax etc??Though I would've thought if she has been having this area waxed for 20 yrs she would know her aftercare, sounds like an allergy to a different product you are using if you ask me.

Try the Perron Rigot, Cristal Ocean strip wax which is hypoallergenic or the Perron Rigot, Cristalline hot wax which is also hypoallergenic. They have a brand new one out for sensitive skin called Pure but it's not been launched yet. xx

What do you use before waxing? I was taught to just use surgical spirit :S is that mad?

May not be the product but the level of hygiene, or lack thereof, practiced.
If skin is not properly prepared or the procedure is not carried out in clean conditions, this is the type of reaction that will ensue.

I use a pre wax cleanser,I have never used surgical spirit, this is something I would use to clean my wax equipment etc with never on my clients face:suprised:.A little bit too harsh really.HTH
